About The Friends of Photography

The Friends of Photography originally was a not-for-profit, member-supported international visual arts organization that operated the Ansel Adams Center for Photography in San Francisco. The Friends promoted visual literacy by presenting, analyzing and interpreting photography as the fundamental medium of visual experience.

The Friends of Photography originally was founded in 1967 in Carmel, California by Ansel Adams, Morley Baer, Beaumont and Nancy Newhall, Brett Weston, and other prominent artists and historians. I was a member of the original Friends of Photography from 1979 through the mid 80's.

This version founded forty years later in 2007 is meant to continue the works using modern digital technology to share the visions of the founders.
