I'll start this one off myself. I'm going to tell you that I thought this one out. That I took it knowing exactly what I wanted it to look like. You can choose to believe that, or not ,as you like ;-) Oh, okay, the extreme levels of noise tends to indicate a BIG crop LOL

LOL... I have done this amount of unsharp background really, really deliberately a few times. The usual cause is that my macros are most often shot with 300m focal lens from a bit further away, and what will you do when that cute bugglet has a 2mm body and there is nothing really close to it?
My best one was shot at leisure in my yard, in a blossoming young cherrytree my own hight. The sharp subject sits in the right lower corner while I framed the single unsharp blossom behind it. A really weird experiment that got almost no views.
This is cropped, but not very tight, The hight is almost the whole image but it was shot in landscape.

Although I have spoken of trying 100% bokeh, I only recently took a couple of such shots. I think I prefer some main subject to focus (ha, ha) attention and use bokeh as an enhancement, but here's my completely OOF contribution entitled Blue Nebula:

I've always kind of liked this shot because it looks like it's from a dream or something. It looks like I've photoshopped this just a little too much, but the silly squirrel was just really hidden.

This was really an accident. The camera was in manual focus and I barely got the tip of the shell in focus. I do like the result.

Just a few thoughts on this thread.........
I think many of the images with minimal areas of focus are absolutely wonderful. There are so many that I would love to have printed on quality art paper, framed and hung on my wall. Fantastic stuff.
Please do keep them coming.
I think 100% bokeh is much more difficult. There are one or two that I love but most, in my opinion, don't work. That will not stop me from trying though. It's still a very worthwhile subject to explore (excuse the pun). But difficult.
What do you think?

Do you have a favorite in this thread?
Which do you like best and why?
Which would you hang on your wall?

I'm just starting to experiment with focussing on the tips of the flower petals, to make nearly the whole flower dissolve into the bokeh.

Good thread. Sometimes you have to go for it. I wanted to push this one as far out of focus as possible and still be a sunset, albeit abstract.

I'm a new member of this group - love the concept. This shot was taken using my old Canon FD 35-105 lens on my 400D. I'm sure the old lenses are better quality and produce much better bokeh.

Here's mine, shot with Nikon D40 + 18-55mm (kit lens).
I was surprised what a nice bokeh the kit lens can do :) Not sure about the colors though, this pic looks very different on my two computas, so I don't know how it reproduces on most screens :(

There are some impressive bokeh shots in this thread.

I only heard of the term Bokeh in mid-July, when using the Flickr Camera Finder to check the results of various DSLRs that I was considering in advance of my holiday at the end of the month. Then, while walking from Southwark to St.Pancras via Westminster with a friend one evening, I mentioned this Bokeh thing and decided to have a go at it, both to see that I could do it and also to show her an example of what I was talking about. I took this shot of traffic at traffic lights in Bridge Street, Westminster. The viewpoint for the shot was in front of a Westminster Underground Station sign at Portcullis House, which I had also shot a few times, jumping up and down for motion blur/light trail shots:
