About Exploratorium Pi Day
Exploratorium Pi Day
From San Francisco to New York, in museums, universities, classrooms and in the privacy of one’s own home, (and of course on Second Life), people are celebrating Pi Day — an international holiday born at San Francisco’s Exploratorium — on Saturday, March 14th, at 1:59pm. The number is Pi, 3.1415926535…ad infinitum. It’s the date and starting time, the number you get when you divide the circumference of a circle by its diameter, and it cannot be expressed as a fraction.
In honor of Pi Day, share your Pi celebrations with us! We want to see your own Pi investigations, measurements, gatherings, circumferences & diameters. Upload and share them here at the Exploratorium Pi Day Flickr group
For instance, did you know your hat size is determined by the Pi of your head? The circumference of an adult’s head usually ranges between 21 and 25 inches. The head’s circumference divided by pi gives us the hat size.
Learn more about Pi, it's history and Pi activities you can do in your own home here: www.exploratorium.edu/pi/
