About Explorama

Photos taken while enjoying the Peruvian Amazon in the care of the 40-plus- years- in- business Explorama.

I hope this group will remain focused on two goals...

1) If you went to the Amazon with Explorama, you probably saw a lot of the same things I saw... but was your camera always ready? Between us, perhaps we can build a complete album of Explorama specific images.

2) I know that I had a very good experience while in the care of Explorama.. and I would recommend the organisation to others, and I hope that the group's photos will help people who are looking for a tour provider. (Just to be clear: I don't have any connection with Explorama beyond being a satisfied customer!)

Please tag your photos explorama and peru to create an alternative way of accessing the pool's photos?

Please try to send mostly Explorama-specific photos... the lodges, the people, the villages Explorama visits, the Amazon Medical Project clinic opposite Yanamono island. Of course, a few of your better photos of dolphins, sunsets, etc, are also welcome... they do illustrate what a great time tourists have... but that type of photo is better found other ways, don't you think? (Maybe not? Start a discussion!) Perhaps it would be right to post photos of wildlife, scenes, etc, actually seen while travelling with Explorama... but to limit ourselves to things that don't already have better representation in the group pool? And perhaps it would be good if people "weeded" their photos of, say, sloths if someone posts a BETTER sloth picture after you've got sloths represented in the pool? Again... what do people think?

A word about Mappr: Both the Yahoo and the Google maps are currently (Apr 07) showing the river in different places if you use the "map" or "satellite" views. I think it would be best to use the satellite view when positioning markers. I also believe that if you use GPS coordinates to position a marker, it usually looks right when viewed against the satellite, whereas the map sometimes puts dry land where your GPS reading put the river. While both the map/satellite services are superb, and Google at least is updating photos all the time, would it be reasonable to expect anyone to re-draw the Amazon maps as often as would be necessary for the fine detail we are accessing to remain exactly right?
