About Experience Your Northwest - WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

XYNW 2009 PHOTO CONTEST WINNING IMAGES!
Thanks everyone for your submissions and your participation in voting for this year's top images. With so many fantastic images to choose from, it truly was a difficult process for us to select the top 5 images to be considered for the final vote. Below is your vote for the overall contest winner and the top images for each category. We have also included some honorable mentions that we thought were worthy of notice.

Overall Winner and Top Flora Image:

People in Nature:

Wildlife:

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Northern Spotted Owl Research - by umpquawild

What we like about this image is how it captures someone in nature conducting important research essential to understanding wildlife in its natural habitat. In this case, the biologist is preparing a mouse to feed the waiting owl in order to study nesting success.

Clayquot Sound Oysters - by smishsmash

Typically when picturing wildlife, you might think of birds, deer, marmots or an animal that moves relatively quickly on the ground, through the water, or through the sky. We have an image here of oysters, which may not immediately strike one as "wildlife" in the usual sense, but is definitely a species native to the Northwest. We appreciate this kind of "out of the box" thinking!

Sawtooth Mountain Range at Sunrise - by The Knowles Gallery

Here is a beautiful image captured of the Sawtooth Mountain Range in Idaho. Often an under-represented region in our Flickr photo stream, the fact that we have such a fabulous image of an Idaho gem caught our attention. Kudos for such a gorgeous shot!

Nightscape - by mtngrlkd

It is not often one comes across such a crystal clear night scene. With stars and planets in focus and the rich glow of dusk on the horizon, this is a technically well-executed image as well as utterly stunning in its beauty. Impressive!

Lily Leaves - by ditchgirls

The lighting and the leaf veins makes this a fantastic image. Very professional looking and polished, we like the attention to detail in capturing this often overlooked feature in flora.

Arriving at Copper Ridge Lookout - by i8seattle

This is a beautifully composed image with a lone hiker in the distance along a winding trail. The rich contrast of warm green and cool, misty blue make for a vivid, eye-catching image. Plus, this image really conveys the spirit of oneself surrounded by the grand and vast scenery of the Northwest, and how so very small we are amid the towering mountains and hills of the wilderness. Impressive!

Once again, thank you everyone and we hope you enjoyed this year's contest. We can't wait to see what you have for us next time!

Cheers!

Experience Your Northwest
Welcome! Here in the Northwest we have an incredible natural world at our doorsteps and great photographs are a fantastic way to share the experience. Whether you are a professional, enthusiast, or just having fun out in the great Northwest, share your pictures and stories here.

Who We Are
Experience Your Northwest is a Flickr photogroup sponsored by Discover Your Northwest, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Seattle dedicated to increasing public appreciation of the rich cultural history and natural beauty of the Northwest. We work in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Montana.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for people to share quality photographs of people enjoying parks and forests; natural landscapes; native northwest flora and fauna; and northwest historic landmarks, sites, and monuments. While all images are valid and have a place somewhere, for this group we aren’t looking for images of corporate signage, latte art, pets indoors, etcetera... keep it focused.

Have any questions? Check the discussions, contact a group administrator, or visit our website.

Happy Trails!
