XGF4

Hi ALL!

After a recess of 1 month we are relaunching XGF again, slightly modified.

First there is a theme: Anything Food.

And secondly the Judge will be a local food photographer, namely, Mr. Yim Chee Peng.

And thirdly we will be trying out Tapestry Room at the Civil Service Club in Bukit Batok.

The rules and schedule for XGF04 are as follows:

Submission
- till 22 Oct midnight (ie about 3 weeks)
- Maximum entries: 5 (up from 3 given the more specialised nature of the theme)

Nominations
- Closes 25 Oct midnight
- Shortlisting by 26 Oct

INTRODUCTION

This is a group for the monthly selection of the 10 best photographs from members to be exhibited at a local cafe, Gone Fishing.

Members will nominate each other's works for selection and a shortlist of the most nominated pictures will be created. The top 10 pictures will be selected from this shortlist by invited prominent photographers in the flickr's global world.

Only flickr members based in SINGAPORE are eligible for the competition.

International participation will be considered when the group is up and running.

Selected photographs will be printed, after being sized appropriately, and then displayed at Gone Fishing for a month, and thereafter retained by the photographers, unless donated to the cafe*.

OBJECTIVE

To promote and give recognition to the photographer and their works.

POSTING/SUBMISSIONS

Members can post up to 3 pictures within a stipulated submission period. Pictures previously submitted cannot be resubmitted.

Pictures added to group MUST BE TAGGED with "XGFnn", with nn is the serial number of the exhibition.

SELECTION

Selection is a three step process, namely Nomination, Shortlisting and Judging.

Nomination

All members are eligible to nominate any picture submitted for selection for the month.

IMPORTANT: For any submission, a member MUST nominate at least 3 photographs, other than his/her own, and also at least 3 of these nominated pictures be indicated in a separate thread.

A nomination is a comment-tag pair.

A nominated picture must, at the least, be commented with (cut and paste the following):

(<i>Nominated</i>; from the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/exhibitiongonefishing/"> Exhibition@Gone Fishing</a> Group.)

and tagged with:

"Xnn!##"

where nn is the Exhibition serial number, and ## is a running counter of the number of nominations the picture has received so far.

Shortlisting

Nomination will close at the end of the stipulated submission period, and the 20 most nominated pictures will be shortlisted. If there are ties in the top 20 then all tied nominations will be shortlisted.

Judging

This will be done by a panel of 3 judges.

Judge#1. This judge will be invited by Admins from the virtual worldwide flickr community. He should be someone of certain reputation as evidenced in his works and in his comments and critiques of other works on flickr. The judge will be made known to the group, preferrably at the start of the submission period. Members can recommend

Judge#2. As per Judge#1.

Judge#3. This will be the one whose picture was ranked as #1 in the previous month.

The judges will rank order their top 10 pictures from the shortlist.

The aggregated ranking will then be computed, namely in descending order of the sum of the reciprocal of judges' rankings. In the event of a tie for the top-ranked picture, then Judge#3's ranking will prevail.

PRIZES

Gone Fishing Cafe is sponsoring prizes for the top three pictures.

LOGISTICS

All selected pictures are to be emailed to a designated Admin at full resolution. Also a description of the picture, and a short biography of the photographer including a self picture is to be submitted. This will be displayed together with the picture.

The printing and mounting will be undertaken by Admins and Gone Fishing.

Owners are to collect the prints from Gone Fishing after the Exhibition. Prints uncollected after 1 month will be deemed the property of Gone Fishing.

*The pictures can also be sold, the price and sales proceeds being negotiated separately between buyer and picture owner.

COPYRIGHT NOTICE

Copyright of pictures posted and printed is retained by the photographer. But by posting members are deemed to have consented to the printing and display of the photographs for the Exhibition at the cafe, Gone Fishing.
