List of useful machine tags

view profile

cyanocorax is a group administrator cyanocorax says:

Here is the official list of machine-readable tags recommended for the group. To suggest improvements, leave a message in the Machine tag thread.

Not all of the tags will be used by EOL. There are others who may use these images and who may be interested in other tags.

Please note that you typically need only one of the taxonomy tags (ideally taxonomy:binomial) for EOL software to know where to put your image:

taxonomy:kingdom=*
taxonomy:phylum=*
taxonomy:class= *
taxonomy:order=*
taxonomy:family=*
taxonomy:genus=*
taxonomy:species=*
taxonomy:binomial=* [use for scientific names with two parts, i.e., genus and species with a space between them, enclose in quotes]]
taxonomy:trinomial=* [use for scientific names with three parts, i.e., genus, species, and subspecies with spaces between them, enclose in quotes]
taxonomy:common=* [the common, or vernacular, name, need quotes if includes spaces]

*replace with the name

Use Flickr to place your photo on a map, or add coordinates manually using the following syntax:

geo:lat=* [replace the star with the latitude]
geo:lon=* [replace the star with the longitude]
geo:long=* [replace the star with the longitude - equivalent to geo:lon]
geo:alt=* [replace the star with the altitude]

geocode:accuracy=
geocode:source=
geocode:datum= (e.g. WGS84, etc.)
