Hello everyone, thank you SO much for your enthusiastic participation. You all have been amazing and we're working through the photos trying to consider each and every one of them.

I hate to be at odds with everyone else posting here but I seem to take it more seriously than most and I do have a different view on this. We are all amateurs in this but we will NEVER raise SL photography to either real art or to a profession as long as we treat it ourselves like amateurs.
I don't want to single out Metaversatility in this respect, they are only part of it and too many photo contests are USED for amateurish, unimaginative, marketing stunts with kiddie prizes and poor organization. Metaversatility, in your case in particular, you have been unclear in your rules and in your deadline. You have seriously dropped the ball in following up at the end of the contest. Even now, you are still failing to give a clear timeline. And at least a "please excuse us, we are overwhelmed by the response" would have been in order.
I am withdrawing my submissions from the contest and I have removed all my pictures from the group pool.

Lem Skall: How were they unclear on the deadline? it says 2-16. As to rules, they just said take pics in the sim. I'm not understanding your negativity.

Vye, in their rules they mentioned high resolution pictures as if it was a condition for the pictures submitted to the contest. It took a couple of rounds in comments to their blog (http://metaversatility.com/wordpress/2008/05/01/its-finally-here/) to get that clarified, which makes me believe that they never really thought about it seriously. Then, again in their blog (http://metaversatility.com/wordpress/2008/05/07/fanchinima-cuba/), they announced on the 7th that there were "four days until the deadline for our contest". "2-16"? What does that mean anyway? 16 is the deadline or the day when the results are announced? I admit though that my "negativity" comes not just from this contest but from the entire trend of marketting in SL through contests, especially photo contests.
And you're welcome, good luck to you winning an 8-by-10 of your picture and maybe 30-something dollars. Just don't quit your day job. They might as well do without prizes. A serious business dangling prizes like that in front of adults is almost an insult.

Oh, well - guess I'm out of it, since I don't let everyone download my hi-res pictures. That's okay though - I'm not really into contests either. I'd rather see collaboration than competition. I just enjoyed the sim, and $30 goes a long way in SL, so I'm happy for whomever wins it.
As for sl photography being serious art - sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't, just like any amateur photography. I'm pretty sick of the name calling at Flickr, whether it's someone saying, "ooh you think you're a great artist and want people to gush over you" or "it's just snapshots and doesn't take any talent." I've had both directed at me, lol!

o want to say a couple of things!!
A) SILVER MAKES ONLY SNAPSHOTS form sl and PRETENDS that they are art...MHUAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!

B) gimme popcorns an Pizza!!
C) i don't think that the PRIZE is so few or an INSULT....is just a way to INCENTIVATE (this verb exist?) the people to partecipate, and this kinda contest...for me...brings MUCH more ATTENTION to the sl photpgraphy....cause lots of people will see them, or partecipate at them.
for example also the IRONMAN contest...that bringed the attention of us to a lot of persons that usually don't use SL!!!!!!!!!!
D)....talking about partecipate...WHY NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT THIS CONTEST???....i have some pics to post, and one posted already....
sigh!!!

Hi all-- wow, I thought I had this thread followed on rss, and it's clear I did not, my apologies.
I was out of town for the weekend and we have been overwhelmed by the response to the contest-- three days (over a weekend) has honestly not been long enough for us to review the over 500 images submitted to the contest.
It has been an immense joy to each and every one of us to watch this pool as these amazing images have come in, and I want to thank each of you for your contributions.
These images will not be used for marketing or promotions, and you have not released your rights by submitting them to our pool or our contest. We will ask for high-res versions of the winning images for printing, as Flickr won't allow us (for good reason) to print the work of others.
We honestly did not expect such a wonderful and enthusiastic response to what has been a labor of love and an internal project for us, and I apologize for the delay in our responses.
We plan to choose the three prize winners by the end of the week, though I assure you it won't be easy!

Thanks for clearing that up, Adri. It's easy to forget that we all have First Lives, too. I really appreciate that you won't ask the winners to release rights or use the pictures for promotions without permission. This has been an issue for me with showing in SL, and when I read the fine print on the Ironman contest (giving away rights to your voice??? I got the heebie-jeebies.
I think entering pictures in the pool was painless, and it was fun to see everyone get excited about it.
As for you, H-I-O, we all know that you're only at Flickr for the girls and free beer ;)
