Hi everyone ..

I had a swap planned to start next week, but unfortunately that fell through.

Is there interest in doing a swap over the summer months?

Any ideas on what the theme should be?

Thanks!
Michele

Hi Michele,
How about a fall swap, so we can have it to enjoy for the fall season?
What about an animal themed one?

Hi Michele,
I think Betsy is on to something. Maybe we could relate it to a certain topic, for instance "animals" like Betsy said, instead of a time of year. Or "things that make you happy", or "dreams" , or "stars" , or "love" , or "freedom" , something like that. Hug from Anita.

You bet I'm up for another swap. But then I'm not organizing so it sounds easy to me. I think a topic theme would be cool. Dreams...hopes....happiness...contentment...peace....Kinda sounds like a Miss Universe pageant answer to what would you wish for but still would be fun to create something fresh based on a universal idea.

THANKS Michele!

I really liked the structure of the embroidery swap, what about an applique swap or a swap of your spin on a certain block? I'd love to participate!

If it's a small project, I'd do it. I really like the embroidery. I do wish people would be mindful of mailing deadlines and such. It's one that bugs me.

I also like the Fall swap too. We're not that busy during the summer and I know a lot of other people are. How about a theme? No animals though, Just my opinion.

I'd like to do another swap, I liked the embroidery, and like Clover and Violet's suggestion of applique, don't mind what theme.

What about a bag, since it's summer there, and you're all out shopping at the farmer's markets, you'll need a nice tote to carry it all home in.......

A tote bag was mentioned on the blog too. What sort of requirements should there be for it? Size, quilted, lined, length of handels??? Would love some suggestions.

We'll do an applique swap one of these days... need to find a designer to create us something super cute to make. I'll ask around, or if someone wants to volunteer.... :)

For a tote if we are thinking grocery bag/farmer's market size I'd go for about 14* 17. I'd go for lined with quilting optional. Handle length - maybe 24 inches?

I'd love to have another tote to add to my collection for the checker and bagger at the grocery store to ooh and aah over as they bag my groceries!

Applique swap sounds GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD to me!! I'm not really a bag fan but that's no problem, so many people so many tastes.

Clover & Violet  Pro User  says:

A tote might be nice, the only drawbacks in my mind are the amount of fabric and the differing taste (it would be disappointing to make an entire tote for someone only to find out they would not carry it because of fabric choice). But, what if they were one yard bags, each made out of a single yard, and fitting some general dimensions (there are a few cute bags in the One Yard Wonders book and over at the Moda Bake Shop too).

I still prefer the mini quilts though...if I think up a cute applique I will e-mail my idea...

I'm up for a summer swap!
I like the idea of another mini quilt or perhaps a Tiny tote. (one small enough for carrying scissors, eye glasses or needle work)

Embroidery, applique' or themed...doesn't really matter to me!
I'll go with the majority rule. (grin)

I think a purse swap would be cool!

or even a stuffie like a cute owl or something... I've never made one... but I'm up for a challenge.

Or we could have a schnibbles swap!

I bet another fun swap would be to find a pattern, cut out all the pieces and send it to a partner for them to sew!!! It would be like an un-sewing swap.

It might even be fun to do something like those old chain letters where a piece gets sent to several people before going to live with someone?!

I would love to do the fall quilt, by the time the swap would be done it would come in time for fall. Plus is could be traditional, paper-pieced or applique so it covers a wide range of abilities and tastes. Maybe even listing some color prefrences.

Flourishing Palms, I'm very sad that you had a bad experience but don't let one taint you! This is usually a very great experience and People are usually very generous. Maybe there was a reason your partner "gypped" you but there are also SWAP angels! So don't despair yet!!! I'm sure you will receive something beautiful!

Please try at least one more swap before you decide we're all terrible partners! Once is bad luck and twice I'd call it quits too.

Cheers!

Oh, Flourishing Palms....I too am so sorry that happened to you! I wonder if that person didn't understant the swap properly? Maybe english is not their language? I'm trying to find an explanation here! But please don't give up on swapping altogether, it can really be a lot of fun! Don't despair, I'm sure you will not be left out and I bet you would have a different experience in another swap!

I"m not sure what happened with Linda's partner (Flourishing Palm), but she just didn't read the instructions on the Quilting Gallery site correctly. Thankfully, she's making her another mini quilt and will have it sent in the next couple of days.

Confusion happens!
