The championship is hosted by the Finnish Golf Union together with Vanajanlinna Golf and Country Club. The patron of the competition is the Finnish Minister of Housing, Jan Vapaavuori.

The International European Amateur Championship will be the highlight of the golf season in Finland. The competition will be played in great conditions on the beautiful course of Vanajanlinna Golf and Country Club located in Hämeenlinna, one of the Finnish golf capitals. The championship will be played as a 72-hole stroke play over four days, starting on the 4th of August and the winner will be announced on the 7th of August.

Apart from the glory of being crowned the European champion, the winner will also get to compete in one of the most valued golfing events of the world, the Open Championship. There will be 144 players taking part in the European Amateur, most of which come from European countries. The participating players will be chosen mainly according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
