Does a Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 Lens get tired with use?

view profile

Prontopac says:

I've noted on several occasions that after using my 70-200 lens for an extended period of time it gets, for lack of a better word, "tired."

It becomes sluggish while focusing, zooming in and out hunting for a focus point, and will fire non-focused resulting in a blurry photo.

Everything else in the photo shoot remains the same, subject, lighting, distance, but the auto focus begins to fail after a couple of hours.

Battery issues? Lens motor heating up?

Any ideas?

Maybe its your flash power dying, the af assist beam really helps focus in tricky lighting situations. During a day shoot i never really noticed it.

I was using two flash units on a location shoot indoors and yes, the ambient light changed during the time I was shooting.

I triggered my strobes using a radio transmitter, so I'm not sure if the af assist beam came into play. Though the light changed and became dimmer, I do not think it the level of light dropped to a point where the lens could not see a reference point to focus on.

And thanks John for your comment.
