About Edinburgh Meetups
This group organises meetups and acts as a place to advertise meetups organised by other groups in and around Edinburgh. Everyone is welcome to attend, and organise meets.
We aim to organise regular socials and photowalk style events. Any non-commercial event that may be of interest to people in Edinburgh can be advertised here. Hopefully this group will act as a central place for finding meetups in the Edinburgh area!
The highlight box at the top of the home page will show the currently planned meetups. See also the Google Photography Events Calendar (includes both EM events and others around Edinburgh).
Meetups
This group both organises and advertises non-commercial meetups. Events of a commercial nature will not be advertised.

Rules for adding to the Group Pool
Make those who didn't attend jealous they missed the meetup!
- There are no posting limits for this group but please use common sense (i.e. - no card dumps/pool flooding).
- The group pool is only for photos/videos taken at a meetup that has been advertised in this group and was open to others to attend.
- If you post pictures of fellow flickrites, please try to supply their flickr name!
- This group is open to everyone, so please ensure all content is suitable for under 18's.
- Please tag any content taken at a meetup that you upload (even if not added to this group) with a tag formatted as 'emYYYYMMDD', i.e. tag 'em20110530 for a meetup on 30th May 2011. This will allow your pictures to be found by others who attended the meetup, whether or not you add the content to this group.
Organising a meetup
In the subject header please include:
- Originating group (if it is not this one)
- What the meetup is
- Where the meetup is
- When the meetup is
In the body please include:
- Reason for the meetup
- Additional information about the event (external links etc.)
- A map link to the start location of the meetup
- em tag for the meetup
If all the information is not known when the thread is started use placeholders (? or TBD - to be decided) and update them when the details are decided.
Here is an example.
Each meetup will have a nominated "shepherd" Usually the person who starts the thread. The role isn't intended to be too much effort, but rather to act as a focal point and arbiter for any decisions (both prior to the event and during it), hence the term!
This mainly involves
- Ensuring the venue location/time are known
- Ensuring people know where the venue is and how to get there
- Having a plan for activities (if required)
- Corralling folks around during the meetup
We hope everyone will act as a shepherd at some point!

Discussions are for photography and photographers socialising, only. Postings about unrelated special interests, financial gain or website publicity posts are not permitted and will be deleted. Please keep debate friendly.
