Just like previous versions, DxO Optics Pro V5 does not work on my Windows Vista 64bit machine.
During setup, the installation of the 32bit version of the Interlok/PACE Anti-Piracy driver fails. This issue should be solvable by installing the 64bit version of the driver that is available from www.interlok.com/dldrvr.html.
However, even with the 64bit version of the copy protection driver installed, DxO won't start, failing with "An unhandled exception of type 'System.BadImageFormatException' occurred in PresentationFramework.dll".
As soon as the DxO website is back up (it is currently down) I will report these problems proper.

Great, unlike DxO Optics Pro V4, I cannot get V5 to work in a 32bit virtual machine. It just dies without an error message on startup.

Sounds like another bullshit from France.... just if you get it working the results speak fro themselves, damnit! Kept me from moving fully to my new hyper fast 64bit machine for a while now. Well the machine might only be faster than the one i need for DxO nowadays.

DxO5: SLOW, very SLOW. Not made for (I don't know anything about what this specification means)?
Intel(R)Core(TM)2CPU
6600 @ 2.40 GHz
1.58 GHz, 3.00 GB RAM
PAE (Physical Address Extension)
When a bought the computer I was told it would work very fine with PS and all corresponding softwares - and PS works really fast.

Heh. They really need to get a proper hosting site and some mirrors. DxO's site has been down since early this morning (Wed 21). And still all I get, as of 16:25 EST is "Forbidden" when I go to dxo.com.
Whoopsie daisy!

Well I had no problems (or only minor problems) getting 4.5 to install in 64 bit Vista. 5.0 seems to not be working properly though.

Yes, it is lots ands lots slower than 4.5, I suspect that they forgot to remove all sorts of debug code. five times as slow is a fair estimate, and this is not a joke. V4.5 was already the slowest processor I know of, although I like it very much.
Has anyone acceptable speed? And what kind of a machine is this on?

I love DXO - great product - BUT I agree the whole vista 64 bit thing is a real pain and so far DXO just say that they don't support it and say so on their website (which is true but in a very small way)
Does anyone understand why it doesn't work on 64bit and if there is a fix? I have just bought a new machine which I expected would speed through processing but am now confused and irritated. Apparently the vista ultimate is delivered in both 32 and 64 bit versions so I now have to go back to HP and ask for the disks and start again in 32 bit version I guess - although makes a mockery of buying a 64 bit system?
Does anyone understand all this and have any view?

It looks like they have posted and update to v5 this is what it says on the DXO site:
However we are aware that certain users are encountering difficulties (see posts on our forums, dpreview, etc…). Please be aware that the DxO team is fully committed to resolving any difficulties we are made aware of as quickly as possible. Although we realize this is of little comfort to those of you who are having difficulties, the percentage of reported cases relative to the overall download stream is in fact the smallest we have experienced in our major upgrades over time. The problems that are being encountered were unfortunately not detected through the hundreds of hours of testing that DxO version 5 underwent – even though we test on several dozen different platforms both internal and external. We posted version 5.0.1 on Friday night which should resolve a large number of outstanding cases for people hitting obstacles. Although we continue to work on some further improvements, we wanted to provide help as soon as we could. Version 5.0.1 is downloadable via each user’s customer page (just login via shop.dxo.com) areas that have been significantly progressed in v5.0.1 are :
- better compatibility with certain AMD platforms
- shorter launch time
- shorter batch processing time

As reported to DxO support team asking them for help (mostly to get some evicence I've made a complaint):
It takes 20 sec to process a NEF file in 4.5.1
It takes 72 sec to run the same NEF in 5.0.1
Don´t upgrade - for the moment anyway!

Version 5.01 installed and I have just played with one photograph. It appears to be ok. I shall try the program out tomorrow night when I have quite a few to play with

Just a small update: Version 5.0.1 still does not work for me. (Re)Installing OS components as suggested by DxO's support department yielded no result.
This leaves me with DxO 4.5 for the time being.
The worst of it: I am getting a Nikon D300 this week which is neither supported by DxO 4.5 nor DxO 5.0 (for which support for the D3 and the D300 were promised).

The update to 5.0.2 Build 6538 has made the processing as fast/slow as in 4.5.1. So far it works fine.

I finally got DxO 5.0.2 to work inside a VMware: I had to enable VMware's Direct3D accelleration.

I've got the same results Sebastian and have decided to wait for the "native" Mac release.
Sad, as VMware does such a great job on other PC programs on my Mac.

Well, I have given up on DXO. Got the new Sony A700 about 2 months ago and contacted DXO regarding when they would support this new camera, and have baically been told that it's "not on their roadmap at present".
I don't like Lightroom at much for batch processing, but it's growing on me. Have another week or so with the Lightroom trial, but it looks like it's bye, bye, DXO for me!

I downloaded 5.0.2 as a 'free upgrade' due to my recent purchase of 4.5. Version 5 doesn't work on my sony vaio laptop.
First off, it doesn't allow me to activate the program because the activate button is grayed out-- it seems to think I'm not an administrator.
It is allowing me to use the program for 11 more days, and when I tried it out the program hangs up whem you attempt to process an image.
There doesn't seem to be any way whatsoever to contact DxO-- they've pulled the plug on any technical support from their website. "Contact technical support" links send you through an endless cycle of FAQ, none of which pertain to any of the problems described here.
They seem to know they have a turkey and have pulled up the drawbridge?

Dan, contacting support is still possible.
Go to the online help section on the DxO website (FAQs & Contact)
In the center column of the page, you have "Categories", then "Search" and below the search box, a black contact link, click it.
On the "Contact Us" page, click on the orange Text "If you can't find the answer to your question please fill out this form to contact our on-line support" below the search box.
Annoyingly complicated and definitely designed to put off customers from contacting support, but it's still there.

In order to activate the program you have to log in as "Administrator" It looks like even if you are an admin on the box it will not let you till you log in specifically as "Administrator"
Dxo 5.0.2 is a useless upgrade. It is not even beta quality software. The thing crashing after every few minutes. I added a batch of 500 photos to process and it seems to crash after every 30 or 40 images. If you try to navigate too quickly the program stops responding. Even when you try adding multiple images to your project it will stop responding or crash. In version 4.5 you got a nice progress bar.
There is also the dreaded not enough information to process you image error. This is on almost every image and does not happen with version 4.5. I have reverted to 4.5 and hope captureOne or one of the other application will offer some of the features Dxo offers. I am ready to jump ship. Piece of crap company with piece of crap software not sure why they think they can treat their customers this way and get away with it.

swisskiltbear & Opanin
thanks for the help. I tried the 'fill out the form' option but it just defaults back to the FAQ page.
The insistence on being logged in as 'Administrator' certainly wasn't something I thought of since a few weeks ago v4.5 had no problem recognizing my adminstrative status.
Is it even worth changing my login to 'administrator' to get this turkey activated? If I do that my understanding is that my 4.5 will stop working and I'm not convinced that v5.0.2 will work even if its properly activated. As it hangs up when processing an image.

Dan, right click on the DXO v5 startup shortcut, click "run as administrator", the activation button will become active, then activate your v5. You do not have to set up a separate login as a true administrator. I have v4.5.1 and v5.0.2 running on 32-bit Vista Home Premium HP laptop. Yes, v5 is rough around the edges as compared to v4.5.1 which was a very polished release. I know a lot prople are having problems and I will make no attempt to side step that issue. But v4.5.1 has not stopped working for me once v5.0.2 was installed and activated. I get no hang-ups on processing, but that doesn't mean it will necessarily be the same for you or others.

Dan,
you must have some other problem, I can get to the DxO support form just fine and fill it out. Try clearing your browser chache or using a different browser.

The word I have now from the forums section of DXO is that my Wacom tablet driver is preventing the V5.0.2 from processing images. I haven't bothered to remove my tablet driver, I'll wait awhile and see if they fix it. Thanks for all the help!

Well, it finally works, for me that is the 5.0.3.
Installed yesterday in my VMWare and in Virtual PC both as 32 bit guest in my 64 bit machine. Both work fine!
I posted timings etc on forums.dxo.com but these were down this afternoon.
See the winterwonderland picture.
This is straight from the Canon EOS 20D raw to DxO uplaoded as quality 90 jpeg via Flickr upload included in DxO.
It looks as if DxO is on track again ...
Now waiting for final speed improvements and the 64 bit version for Windows XP Profesional x64.

V5.0.3 finally seems to work, albeit it slowly. It took about 4 minutes to process three pictures. This version was described as being supposed to fix problems with 'certain Wacom tablets', so that was probably my problem. thanks everyone for the suggestions along the way.

I also noticed that DxO v5 on Windows machines is terribly slow, even on capable (read: fast) machines. I'm on a Mac myself, and v5 isn't released for OS X yet but when it's released I think I'll wait for user feedback before getting my credit card out...
