About Durham Region

Originally established in 1974, but with history going back to the 18th century, Durham Region is located in the economic heartland of Ontario. From large urban cities to small hamlets and villages, this region is diverse both in population and natural landscapes, and offers both visitors and residents alike many opportunities for photography.

Stretching from the Rouge Valley in the west, to farmlands in the east, from Lake Ontario to Lakes Scugog and Simcoe, Durham Region is filled with natural diversity which makes it rich with scenes for any photographer to capture. Community parks, festivals, and celebrations abound, showcasing the pride Durham’s residents have in their home.

Nature reserves, conservation areas, the Oak Ridges Moraine, and Darlington Provincial Park, all offer opportunities to capture the wildlife of this region of Ontario.

Durham is an ideal spot to capture both the slow pace of life in the country, and high speed chaos of city life. Whether it’s catching the GO Train en route to Toronto, or the farmer bringing in his harvest, life in Durham is never boring, and there is always something else to turn your lens towards.
