About Due Process

Due Process is a group being organized for one simple reason. To request that Flickr change their policy of permanent account deletion without warning.

Too many of our friends have had their accounts nuked over infractions at Flickr.

We would request that Flickr change their policy from account deletion without warning to a policy whereby accounts deemed necessary for deletion are instead made private for one week prior to Flickr deletion.

While an account was private only the individual owner of the account would be able to view it's content.

This would satisfy any immediate objective of Flickr in removing copyrighted or other material, while at the same time allowing the individual a one week period to try and recover their data off of flickr's servers before permanent loss.

Also during this one week period, we would request that an individual be given an opportunity to take corrective action to bring their account into compliance with Flickr and that they be given an opportunity to appeal an account deletion decision to a more senior member of Flickr's customer service staff.

Assuming voluntarily corrective action was not taken on the part of an individual then after the one week private period, Flickr could then permanently remove the account.

This warning period obviously would not apply to content deemed illegal (like child pornography).

It is our hope that Flickr will consider this solution which would be a win for them in removing unwanted content from their system and a win for their customers in helping them to better protect their data and their important online lives on flickr.

This is a grass roots effort. We can best succeed by spreading the word. Please consider telling your friends about this group, inviting your contacts on Flickr to this group, tweeting, buzzing or blogging this group etc. Help us promote this group so that we can get this practice changed.

If you haven't already, please take a second to add your name to a simple petition to help effect this change:
