18 Jan 12 - Today flickr gives you the option to protest the SOPA and PIPA legislation by "darkening" your photos - blacking them out for a day - akin to the Wikipedia English's 24 hr blackout. It's not permanent - darken your photos, protect internet freedom.

About Dublin Street Photography (DSP)

Welcome!

The establishment of this group was motivated by a desire to display, promote and facilitate the various aspects of the street photography genre in Dublin. In its relatively short life it has steadily increased in membership, and we have received contributions from both permanent and temporary denizens, as well as passing visitors to the city. Long may it continue!

The previous and initial group blurb gave an unrestrictive outline of what constitutes "street" photography. Here is a brief expression of the sentiment as recounted in Street Photography Now: 'It reveals the poetic possibilities that an inquisitive mind and camera can conjure out of everyday life...in a single frame it can distil a remarkable amount of truth, showing the everyday with such wit or honesty that it will time and time again amaze, delight or amuse us...Technical virtuosity, original composition and compelling content are all essential, even if they do not necessarily guarantee a great street photograph.'

Photo pool submissions have, since the group's beginning, been subject to a check by moderators prior to their acceptance into the collection. This is solely to screen intentional or unintentional submissions that the Mods consider outside the street genre, and to maintain a level of photographic standard. The introductory blurb voiced a hope that there would eventually be a collection of photos representing the breath of the genre, which might serve as a guideline for submissions. We are certainly getting there, and there is now a rough guideline to follow. If your submission are -never- successful, they are fundamentally divergent from this basic archetype. We suggest perusing the pool or getting an idea of "street" from professional practitioners elsewhere (though there may be some cross-over!)

We hope this group continues to flourish, and people gain enjoyment from it. Perhaps the one element lacking thus far is discussion and posting useful information. Let's get this going too!
