About Digital Photography Review
Following a recent discussion here and here, It has been suggested that the group would benefit more if it stated an aim or purpose.
So, here goes... Actually, before I do that, let me give a little background to how this group originated. When I created this group, I didn't specifically have a "purpose" in mind. Perhaps, other than that, a) I liked the name and b) I would develop it into a platform where people could share their photos and review each other's work in a constructive and coherent way. I think partly the idea came from a well known website of the same name which didn't have an organised way for its members to share photos at the time.. not that I was aware of one anyway. Although, I am aware that they do now so I appreciate that is not relevant anymore.
Anyway, coming back to the story, I also happened to start another group at the same time, on Indian Army, which diverted my focus and the plan I had for this group never really materialised. However, this hitherto inactive group has recently almost self-evolved into an active one with 35 (on the last count) members and nearly 150 images in the pool, and, some interesting threads which has compelled me to think about this group and it's purpose again.
I am personally happy if people want to join this group and use it as a platform to extend or compliment their activities on another forum or website. Or simply, use it as a place to share their work with others. As long as the focus remains on photography and to appreciate and/or offer constructive criticism on other people's work anyone is welcome to join. I think this was the real implicit purpose behind creating this group since day one, although, just not stated explicitly. I never ventured to do so for the reasons I have already explained above. But then again, I guess you could say that's what Flickr is for anyway so there is no real need to state a purpose.
In that sense, to quote what a member of this group said elsewhere,
"...there is no purpose for this group other than to enjoy each other's photos"
And I guess, that's where I would draw the line.
Best Wishes,
