About GDMAP - Back to the basics CHALLENGE 2007

The purpose of this challenge is – as the title says – to spend just a little time with the building blocks of good photography. We strip away the expensive lenses, filters and post work, and focus on what really matters most – composition.

This should be a really fun exercise for everyone. Hopefully we will all learn something, and have some cool images to look at.


*OFFICIAL RULES:

This is an ongoing exercise / challenge. There are no longer restrictions with regard to deadlines.

Technical notes:

Each participant must use a disposable film camera with 24 exposures. The film can be color or black and white. The selection of ISO will be open to the choice of the participant. All 24 exposures must be uploaded into the pool in this group regardless of quality of the images. The participant is not restricted to the use of one disposable camera, but all of the 24 images that are uploaded must come from the same camera (no mixing and matching). All of the images must be uploaded between the open dates of the challenge.

The ONLY post adjustments that can be made to the images within this challenge are unsharpen mask and levels. Any and all other adjustments are absolutely prohibited from this challenge. If any image is called into question, please be prepared to present a scan of the original print of the image(s) in question. Since this is a fundamental rule, anyone who tries to break it will be caned, generally discouraged by his/her peers, images removed from the pool, and banned from the group.


Theme:

We're artists and should have a broad theme to work within, one suggestion for a theme is simply NEGATIVE SPACE. Any image that you feel has good use of negative space, regardless of the subject matter, should be considered. The bottom line... we're just looking for good images captured on a crappy camera.


Restrictions:

Most of us visit flickr from work, so we need to keep the images work-appropriate OR tag and label the image(s) to include the word "SENSITIVE" in all caps. Viewer beware if the tag and label displays the word "SENSITIVE" because it is probably not work-appropriate.

Obviously, any illegal behavior is also prohibited from this challenge as well.
