27 Jul 09 - Special Events qualify as Opening Days too!

Technically it's an opening day to an attraction lasting only one day.

About Disney Opening Day

DSC00125 by Dr. Disney Wizard
The Disney "Weenie", Walt Disney used "Weenie" to define the draw of the crowd by the tantalizingly dangled interest suspended from a string, attached to a stick. Disneyland has sight lines displaying a series of weenies designed to attract a crowd. Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end of Main Street, then King Arthur Carousel through the portcullis. Tomorrowland's original weenie was the TWA rocket, poised ready to launch. Frontierland's weenie was the Mark Twain Riverboat. Adventureland's weenie was, and still is, the mystery just around the the bend.

Opening Day of Disneyland dangled a weenie so successful it drew crowds far beyond capacity, by way of Television and the "Disneyland" show. Advertising today defines the "big new thing" campaigns, such as "Night-tastic!" "Celebrate" "Million Dreams" which encompass new attractions such as parades, rides, and shows - campaigns which emphasize not the new concrete, but how much fun your family will have inside the gate. Quite often folks can't remember when or what year they were last at Disney, but they CAN remember what was the "big new thing."
Recently opening days included Club D23, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Disney's 'A Christmas Carol' Train Tour. If you were enticed by the "weenie" enough to be among the first there at "the big new thing," please post the pictures you took on or before Disney's OPENING DAY!
