About Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives

Diners, drive-ins, greasy spoons, cafes, dives, perhaps with a sign that simply says "EAT" glowing overhead. We all know them, we've probably eaten in them. (If you haven't, then this group probably isn't for you.) There's thousands of these little places across the country and down every highway, some hidden away on a side street, some right on the main drag.

This group celebrates the places that bring us the "comfort food" we all love, the sharp-tongued waitresses, truck drivers at the counter, families in the booths, and steaming helpings of the good stuff. Be it gleaming vintage stainless steel diners or the little box-style place on the corner, that's what we're looking for. Please bring your photos (and your friends) along, and share with the rest of us.

Welcome here are:

• Photos of diners, drive-in restaurants, cafes and other little restaurants. (Nothing fancy!)
(Old-fashioned Lunch Counters are also OK here.)
• Scans of related material such as matchbooks, menus, advertisements, postcards.
• Photos of interiors, exteriors and signs.
• Discussions of such places, including recommendations (good and bad) or directions to.

NOT welcome here are:

• Bars.
• Drive-In theatres.
• Fancy restaurants.
• Bars.
• Drive-In theatres.
• National chains. (Sonic, "Denny's Diner", etc)
• BARS!
• Photos that don't belong to you. Please don't post scans/photos from other people or websites.

Yes, we mentioned bars and drive-in theatres repeatedly on purpose. Folks keep posting them here, and they don't belong. There's other groups for such items. ;-)

An exception to "No National Chains" are A&W's, but only the rare vintage locations. Newer styled locations (or pretty much any post 1970, or ones without car hop service) are not. Small regional/local chains are OK, but we're looking more for the one-off place, the place where the locals go, the "inside secret" with the great grub. If you're unsure if your photo fits the theme of the group, post it anyway (or ask). We'll sort it out later. (..and if your photo gets removed from the group, please don't take it personal. We just felt it didn't fit in, but we hope you'll continue to contribute!)

If you have multiple photos of the same place, please pick your best shot, not all of them. (Thanks!)
