Assignment - Alternative Composition

view profile

Darren Rowse is a group administrator Darren Rowse  Pro User  says:

A good question to ask after pressing the shutter release on your camera is:

'how else could I have taken this shot?'

I suspect that many photographers miss out on potentially wonderful shots by quickly lining up photos, snapping them and then moving on. If they'd just paused after taking a shot and looked for a fresh perspective on the same scene or subject they could well find a great shot.

For this assignment I'd like to challenge us all to post two pictures of the same scene that are quite different from one another.

Perhaps they're different because of the framing, the focal length, the format that you're shooting in (horizontal or vertical), the aperture, the shutter speed, the ISO.... etc

You might already have some shots in your archives to use - but it could also be an assignment for the next week or so when you're out and about with your camera.

I took one photo of the Golden Gate Bridge from below and then noticed the fence to my left and tried a different shot. I like them both.
