About Photographic Expressionism (aka Digital Expressionism)
The expressionist movement in visual art was identified in 20th century as the art form that distorts reality to express an emotion that underlies the reality. The reality origin can be still perceived, but its detail is not preserved.
Great examples of such art are works by Edvard Munch and Francis Bacon, but even such earlier artists as Goya and El Greco present a clear expressionism in some of their work.
In digital photography world the distortion of reality comes through blurs, camera movement, slow shutter speeds, color manipulation and image manipulation of the original images.
Toy cameras, specialty cameras, pinholes -- all also tdistort reality in-camera.
In this group we will collect expressionist images that retain a connection to reality (not abstract), but distort the detail, to emphasie a strong emotion or emotional movement.
The mood and atmosphere rooted in reality but expressive beyond a mere documentary is our objective.
It is not our objective to display the tricks that Photoshop and other manipulation programs can do. In fact, the less the image seems "photochopped" - the better.
Thank you for joining and thank you for contributing to this new form of photographic art.
