Keep up the excellent photography! As of late, several photos have no background as a reference. Please bear in mind that in the original group rules it states: "The background must be detectable and identifiable as the desert." I'm not trying to change anything, but it would be nice to know that these cacti and flowers aren't in a pot on a veranda in San Francisco. Photos taken in the wild only - minimal post processing.

Group Description

A place for your (USA Southwest*) Desert Cacti and Flower photos from the WILD. Nothing from Botanical Gardens, Nature Centers, Nurseries, your front yard etc. Any photo that hints of these will be deleted. Please use very minimal post processing and accoutrements. See group rules for the fine print.- Thank you.

*Images taken in the American Southwest (USA) as defined by the United States Census Bureau. The contiguous states included: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

Group Rules

Lot's of rules, but it's not that bad. Many have been added over time for clarification.

The focus is Desert Cacti and Flowers from the wild - nothing planted or from botanical gardens etc. Southwest USA only: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

Please don't add unnatural twists to your photos, ie. No, special effects, excessive post processing - (just looking for NORMAL photos with NATURAL colors) The background must be detectable and identifiable as the desert, ie. if it looks like it was taken in the garden of Eden, well, you know.... (think dry), use minimal bokeh - preferably none. Night photos and white flash are fine. Blooms, buds, weed flowers- all good. Interesting desert plants are welcome with the exception of Joshua Trees unless they are flowering.

Identify the flowers/plants if you prefer. General locations welcome. Stick with the lower desert. Too much greenery, mountain meadows, waterfalls, excessive elevation, may get a photo removed.

No coastal cacti or flowers. Please keep it inland, within bonafide desert regions. Random scenic desert photos will probably be be deleted - many are quite beautiful, but missing the point unless there are some close up subjects.

Please keep the cacti or flowers as the main subject in the photo. Example: A photo of a person with a cactus or some flowers in the background is not what we are looking for. The plant must be the main subject.
