25 Mar 09 - DO NOT submit your blurry photos here!. Check the pool for examples before submitting.

This group is about defocused images that eliminate all sense of the original object, allowing for the creation of an image that has it's own appeal regardless of the subject matter. This is achieved through deliberate defocusing, not by simply being a bit blurry.

Use this rule of thumb: If you can identify what the photo has been taken of, then it doesn't belong in this group.

About defocus

"I don't know what it is, but it moves me."

For photos that are deliberately out of focus. No accidental out of focus, no blur, no motion or movement, just images that were composed or constructed specifically to be out of focus. Avoid sharp edges and definition of objects.

Think ambiguous and use 'out of focus' as a technique to eliminate detail, lines and sharp edges. The idea is to be less about blur/motion blur and be more about examining new detail in objects which leads to the creation of a whole new image. The thing you're defocusing on is NOT the most important part - it's the image that you create from it. If you want groups that deal with blur visit BBlurzz, blurfection or Blurvision.

As photos in this group pool are encouraged to be ambiguous, you can choose to give an explanation of what the object actually is or leave it up to others to take a guess.

Please tag your photos with defocus.
