About Dark Tourism

Please post images of tourist sites that have dark overtones to them.
Example images from a visit to Aushcwtiz vs. a visit to one of Club Med's vacations destinations.

rules- please don't post more then 5 images of the same place. pick your best!

Fact: the number one tourist destination in Poland is Auschwitz, the number two is the Wolf's Lair , Hitler's Bunker. More of us then you might think are drawn to sites laden with death and destruction. Historic importance is the draw for some, others end up at such sites just because they are in the tourist guide books and just a run of the mill curiosity draws them to make a visit. What ever the reason, these type of sites are starting to rake it in, if not finically ( many are free), then at least with the number of visitors they see passing through-as i hope this group will also see. New dark sites open all the time. there are more and more monuments /museums that need to be made to keep up with the dark acts of mankind. the last site i visited that fits the bill is the memorial and museum in Oklahoma City. I have documented sites all around the world that fit the bill- South Africa's Robben island where Nelson Mandela spent many a day, Cambodia's killing fields , The 6th floor Museum, former embassy site in Nairobi and Hiroshima , to name a few.

Please give as much information about the site photographed as possible along with your images. The site can be obscure- it needn't be famous at all. No more then 5 images from one site please.

to see more on dark tourism i recommend The Dark Tourism Forum - "Death, Disaster and the Macabre: Discover the 'Darker Side of Tourism' by visiting The Dark Tourism Forum at www.dark-tourism.org.uk "
