About Dance4Life
What is Dance4Life?
Dance4Life is a growing, worldwide project to fight back HIV and AIDS by dancing. Dance4Life actively involves young people by dancing for life.
Dancing to fight back HIV and AIDS?
Yes! Through:
The Dance4Life Schools Project: every other year (this year, 2006!) the participating countries organise a Schools Project. The Schools Project is made up of four parts: a visit of the Dance4Life Tour Team; raising awareness and funds; life-skills programmes; and the Dance4Life Event.
• The Dance4Life Tour Team visits each school involved in Dance4Life with a funky and breathtaking performance, involving musicians, dancers (to teach the worldwide Dance4Life Drill!), video, peer educators and young people living with HIV/AIDS.
• Raising awareness and funds is the second part of the programme, including different fundraising actions for HIV/AIDS prevention projects, and raising awareness amongst friends and family for instance.
• The life-skills programme is all about learning negotiation skills (NO is NO) and entrepreneurial skills, sexuality and prevention, human rights, the relationship between drug abuse and HIV etc.
• The grand finale of the Schools Project is the worldwide mega Dance4Life Event on the Saturday before World AIDS Day (25 November 2006).
By World AIDS Day 2012, we aim to have at least one million people dancing all over our planet, connected by satellite, making a powerful statement of hope. This is the climax of the Dance4Life Schools Projects. Check which countries are already involved. A million involved young people dancing will make such a positive statement that we will attract media, politicians and the general public all over the world! Check out what is happening this year.
Whenever others see you dance, they too will become aware that there is no time for hesitation. 39.5 million people are living with HIV. A lot can be done by good education and by combating taboos. Young people are the group most at risk: every day, over 6,000 people between 15-24 years old are infected. We want the young to become leaders, instead of targets.
Start dancing, Stop AIDS, Dance4Life.
