02 Sep 08 - I just want to take a moment to thank everyone here. :) This has fast become my favorite Flickr group. I love looking at the images you guys post and reading the descriptions. Not only are the images freaking great much of the time, but I really feel I get to look inside your lives and share them, and sorry to sound like a Hallmark card, but I find that something very special. I am so glad for your participation in this project. I kinda think Jamie might be proud. :)

About Photo of the Day: A Tribute to Jamie Livingston
Jamie Livingston was a filmmaker who took a Polaroid photograph every day of his life from 1979 until his death on his 41st birthday, October 25, 1997. 6,697 photographs.
I find that remarkable.
This photographic exploration of life was carefully catalogued and stored, and documented everything from hanging with friends to professional events and his battle with cancer.
It is my hope that this group will take this concept and run with it. To go beyond the limitations of self-portraiture or itemized lists and really explore the lives of the people who join and choose to post here. I can't really think of a better way to keep the soul of a person like Jamie Livingston alive.
Please refer to the following blogs for more information, as the site dedicated to Livingston and his photos is currently offline. I hope it returns.
Update: the Livingston website is back up and running; apparently several thousand of us discovered Livingston all at the same time (thanks to a Spanish newspaper), and the server could not handle the load. Livingston's friends, Hugh Crawford and Betsy Reid, are working at getting that all squared away and the website finished - it isn't even ready for public viewing yet, and Chris Higgins' discovery of it was quite by accident. I posted a thread in the group with the website url. Try not to all hit it at once, please!
