What DAA is looking for in a project.

Projects should include 10 - 30 photos.

Projects should tell a specific story. A photo essay covering all of Lao is worth while project, but it would take years not weeks to do in-depth. Especially for starting, a more specific story is more realistic. For example, a photo essay about the recent boom of Chinese run businesses in Lao.

Projects should generally be taken over an extended period of time. It is possible to get 20 good and diverse photos of a place in one weekend, but capturing the depth of a place in a single weekend is not likely.

Projects do not have to be news related. "Outdoor barbers of Saigon" wont make any headlines but could make an interesting photo essay for example.

Projects should be able to stand on their artistic merits alone in addition to having a well developed story.

Wait don't run away. DAA is not only committed to producing high quality documentary projects, but also committed to developing members skills to be able to do so. Creating a high quality documentary project will not be easy, especially for the first time. But if you are committed to learning we hope we can guide and support you and set you up for success.
