Huge problem, black bar running across my photos

view profile

smoothdude  Pro User  says:

My D80 all of a sudden has a HUGE black bar running diagonally across the left corner of my LCD display. Its taking the photos but each one shows up in the display the same way...almost covering a 1/3 of the photo.

I have a gig tonight and will need to run out now and try to rent a different camera..any suggestions?

I just put in a brand new ultra II SD card but that can't be it can it? I don't know what to do..ill be back in a few im going to go to the camera store now

Does the bar appear on the photos when viewed on the PC?.....or just the LCD screen?......if it's just the screen then it shouldn't affect the gig photos too much as long as you have an idea of what you're doing.
If it's visible on the pictures on the PC too then have you taken the lens off to have a look inside....just in case it's something come loose?
Not sure what else to suggest though....

I've seen damaged LCDs do this. This was on a point and shoot and the line was sort of jagged. The pictures fine, it was just that the LCD was damaged from being dropped, I think.

the LCD wasn't the problem.. the actual shutters are broken.

unreal I think I'm really pissed off. I've had that camera less than a year and the shutter broke on it? I took off the lens and saw the shutter..its like mangled and all messed up. I'm bringing it in tomorrow to send away for repair.

I had to buy another body that day..because I had two gigs this weekend..so I woke up Friday ready to make some $$$$ and I ended up shelling out almost $900!

That sucks, but at least you have two bodies for your next job! that could be handy, keep a wide angle or telephoto on one while the other has a normal lens or what ever. Please let us know how the service repair goes.

I had a backup D70 but it was at home for my Friday gig.. my weddings I ALWAYS go with 2 bodies

can you believe the shutter broke like that? my d70 has taken like 50,000 shots probably..and the frigging D80 broke under a year.. skypecapt I probably took like 10-20K with it maybe?

unreal I'm so pissed right now

Yeah, when stuff like that happens to me I just call it a Friday product. You know the assembly worker and it's like 4:45 on a Friday at the factory, can't leave until they finish x number of product. So here comes the bad workmanship!

Thats why they give us a warranty. Although that would really piss me off. So, on that note my TV just died. The second one in like a month. So goes life.

yeah that's how life goes sometimes.

The other problem is I can't seem to find my receipt right now.. but I used a credit card and I bought it at Adorama (who I have never had a problem with) and I have a 5 year Mack warranty

so I'm hoping I'll be ok when I call Adorama tomorrow morning right? right? someone reassure me!??!?! *bites nails*

Adorama? Good luck. Sometimes they are good...

If you bought it online, your receipt should be on your account info on their site.

actually I found my receipt this morning thank Jeebus!

skyecapt I really don't know. I bought it last November and I shoot several times a week at least... I'm backing up my lightroom archives and I have a few months this year where I shot 20-30 gigs worth of photos if that gives you any idea.

maybe 20,000 photos? whatever it is, it's a lot less than what my D70 has given me

Thank you. Thats really not nice to know.
Im at 13000 pictures right now.
If it happens I hope its before the 1 year warranty expires.
