About Cygnus - Art Gallery of Alberta
Cygnus was engaged to design and develop the Wayfinding approach, graphics and sign system, donor recognition system, visitor guides and maps, and interactive media. Striking the right balance of function, economy and use were key design challenges.
The Art Gallery of Alberta is a special project for Cygnus. As a local company with established roots in the community, meeting the ambitious goals of the AGA meant listening very carefully to their needs and respecting the vision and values of the entire project.
As an organization re-inventing itself from the ground up, this meant approaching the tasks at hand from a holistic perspective and collaborating with other teams to foster an integrated process. Cygnus was instrumental in assisting the AGA in understanding and implementing its ambitious communication objectives. Of significant value to the gallery, was Cygnus’ expertise in managing the complex process through all phases of the project.
The new Art Gallery of Alberta is a state of the art facility that features international, Canadian, and First Nations art, education and scholarship. The gallery will now house a collection from the National Gallery of Canada, and features several new services including a restaurant and cafe, a gift shop, art rental and sales, theatre, and art education centre. A milestone project for the city of Edmonton, it will contribute the city’s vibrant arts community while securing its reputation on the global stage as a world class destination.
