About CX - The Combination Challenge
Greetings everyone,
It’s challenge time again – this time it’s for all the marbles. The 10th installment of the challenges is a combination of all of the previous challenges combined, thus the name “The Combination Challenge”.
This will be an actual competition with a prize awarded for the winner (along with bragging rights). Since this will be an actual competition with voting, the shoot will last for a duration of 2 weeks as opposed to the usual 1 week turnaround. Now, for the details…
The Rules for this competition are as follows:
1. You must incorporate as many of the previous challenges into one photo and submit them into a flickr group that will be created this week.
2. To submit to a flickr group, one must have a flickr account – it’s free and easy to sign up so that shouldn’t be too much trouble.
3. You have 2 weeks from today (October 15th) to shoot the challenge and submit.
4. No archive shots are allowed – every submission should be taken during the week of Saturday October 15th to Saturday October 29th.
5. Submissions end on Midnight Sunday October 30th.
6. In your file description/tag please add which of the previous challenges are incorporated into your shot.
7. Only ONE entry per person so be sure to pick your best shot.
8. There is no way of knowing for sure if you used some of the elements ie ‘fixed focal length’ so it will be based on the honour-system here. (The voting will be based on the photograph as a whole anyways so it’s a combination of most challenges used/public favorites)
9. Voting will be open on flickr starting Sunday October 30th for a duration of TWO days ending on November 1st.
10. All TPMG Flickr users are only allowed to vote on ONE image that they like best, taking into consideration the number of previous challenges used and overall aesthetics of the image (yes you can vote for your own, but if your photo is that good, it’ll have plenty more votes).
11. Any user who votes for more than one image will have their other votes removed and only the original vote will stand.
12. Winner will receive an 8x10 or 35mm equivalent ratio-sized print of their photograph from yours truly. The web version can be any colour space you want. The winner however will have to set the final hi-image to Adobe RGB (1998) colour space and email it to me. The print will be awarded in either the next meetup or social night.
Here’s a list of previous challenges just to refresh your memory:
C1 - The Fixed Focal Length Challenge
C2 – The Texture Challenge
C3 – The Creative Colour Challenge
C4 – The Symmetrical Challenge
C5 – The Fill Flash Challenge
C6 – The Low Angle Challenge
C7 – The Framed Challenge
C8 – The Alpha Challenge
C9 – The Negative Space Challenge
I know that it may not be possible to incorporate ALL of the previous challenges into one image but that’s the fun of it – trying to. What this challenge is mainly for is to refresh all the different techniques learned from previous ones and get you thinking more about how combining various techniques can aid in creating a unique composition. It may be tough at first but having to think about your shot before going out to shoot is an exercise in itself. It helps you get focused and gives you a goal and a reason to go out and shoot.
As always, this is just something fun for you all to do if you need a goal to shoot for. Everyone/no one can participate and just as long as you’re improving your photography with this challenge, that’s all that counts.
I hope to see some great shots coming out of this one and we’ll see in 2 weeks who gets crowned the 1st Challenge Master. Good luck and happy shooting!
Ryan
