About Croydon in Bloom photo competition 2009THE WINNERS ARE: A departure from the many images of natural landscapes, in that it shows a striking view of one of Croydon’s many large office buildings. But it caught the judges’ eyes mainly because of its optimistic outlook and vivid colours. WILDLIFE Great focus and clearly a lot of patience! LANDSCAPES A Christmas-card perfect shot. PARKS A simple park bench moodily caught. FLOWERS Great reminder of Summer in Croydon. GARDENS [http://www.flickr.com/photos/42203901@N03/3892770155/] Nice image and lovely sentiment behind it. MOBILE Mobile phone photography is coming of age. We were after your photos of flowers, wildlife, parks, landscapes and gardens for our 2009 Croydon in Bloom campaign. We have also joined forces with the team behind 'Imagine Croydon’ who are looking for any pictures of the borough that inspire your imagination or make you proud of where you live or work. Croydon is a fantastically green place, with more open space than anywhere else in London. Every year we celebrate the ‘blooming marvellous’ nature of our borough by awarding residents and businesses for the efforts that they make to keep us looking at our best. Apart from our own local awards, Croydon also takes part in regional and national competitions (London in Bloom and Britain in Bloom), and this year we came top in our category in London and also beat Edinburgh to the best large city award in the UK! We will do our best to use – and acknowledge – as many of your photos as we can in many of our publications throughout the year, including Your Croydon, the borough's community newspaper. Our media partner, The Croydon Advertiser, will also help to show off your work. The best photo in each category will win a bundle of photo-products from 'Moo.com’***. The picture judged as best overall will also win a 16"x12" canvas print of their shot, courtesy of Beaumont-Wright Photography Ltd. of 18 Park Street. If you have any questions concerning anything on this page please e-mail john.bownas@croydon.gov.uk in the first instance.
