About Critique Circle

The Critique Circle is a group of friends who gather for the purpose of sharing photographs and critique. Membership in this group is by invitation only.

Posting Photos for Critique: You may post up to 3 photos per week for critique/comment by the other members. Please include some notes and a brief description of what you were trying to accomplish with the image to help guide your fellow photographers in their comments. To post a photo to the group pool, upload it to your own Flickr account. Once uploaded, go to your photostream and click on the thumbnail to open the photo. If you haven't done so already, add a description and then click "Send to Group" to post the photo to the group pool. Please note that non-members can see our photos and the comments, but not our discussion area.

Participation: There aren't any strict participation requirements; however, the general idea is that each member will visit the group about once week to provide critiques on photos posted by other members to the group's pool. The group will remain small so that the number of photos shouldn't become burdensome.

Critiques/Comments: No real rules here, except "Be Polite." All of us here are well beyond beginning photography, so you can assume basic technical choices with regard to DOF, composition, exposure etc. were intentional and focus your discussion points on the artistry of the shot. Additionally, it's assumed that if a shot is up for critique that the poster is willing to receive constructive criticism on it, so if a shot just doesn't grab you it's OK to say so...and please explain why.

I'm Here - What Do I Do Now? You might want to add the group members to your Flickr Contact List. If you use Yahoo! as your main e-mail or homepage, you can add various RSS feeds to your My Yahoo! for the group/contacts and get instant notification when a new image is posted or critique is placed on one of your images. A good place to start is by reviewing some of the older photos in the pool and the critiques that were received. Got something to add? Jump right in! We are all here to help each other.

General Housekeeping: While right now our members are also all DPC members, in future this will change. Most of us know there is life beyond DPC, and this group is about helping each other to produce better photographs and not necessarily about producing better challenge entries. (Potential DPC challenge entries are allowed, and if you see one please vote appropriately.)
