About Creswell Crags

Creswell Crags and the Heritage Area is sandwiched between the Peak District National Park on the west and Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest on the east.

This area has been designated the Creswell Crags Heritage Area due to the concentration of Ice Age archaeological sites, mainly caves, which can be found in the valleys and cliff sided gorges. There are many more sites to explore including medieval towns and castles, country houses, rural stone built villages, rich industrial historic sites, as well as ancient woodlands and limestone grasslands. Connecting these sites are the gently rolling limestone hills with fields often bordered by dry stone walls.

Visiting the Creswell Area puts you in touch with spectacular scenery that has evolved at the hand of people who visited this area 50,000 years ago and farming and industrial communities who later settled in the area.

Please post your images of the Crags past and present, we look forward to seeing your wonderful contributions.
