Kids Digital Camera (help)

Kristine Ellison  Pro User  says:

Hi all!!
So Christmas is around the corner and my 3 year old told me he want’s his own camera. I was so happy he said that, I can't wait to see what pictures he takes. Maybe I'll set him up a flickr page. :)
Back to the point there are a few out, and I was wondering what you all think. Do you have the camera's? Do you like them? Are they easy for a 3 / 4 year old to use? Just any info on these cute little things would help me. I posted in this group because most of us have kids or we know about camera's.
Thanks!!!
~Kristy~

Hey thanks, I can't believe your camera still works after that drop!
I all so wonder if that is right on the .3MP?? That seems funny, cell phones are better than that. I'll see what a few more people say, about the other ones or if they know about others. I got time!

I bought the FP for my kidos last Christmas. Photo quailty is poor, but not awful. It's super easy for them to use and they love the thing! It's had it's shares of falls and drops and still works fine.

ya.. image quality on all 3 are pretty bad. I'd sooner get something like this
www.amazon.com/Camera-QC5150-Mp-Dig-Flash/dp/B000CRKVZ0/r...

and if it breaks, it breaks, it's $50 and 5 Mp, 8X zoom Dig., Flash

there are others in the same price range / image quality.. FP and LT need to put a 5Mp sensor in these 'toys'.. I guess they'll do that next year so you buy a new one.

My 3 yr old just got one for her birthday this past weekend she loves it! It's a fisher price. The quality on the images is pretty low but prints a 4x6 pretty clearly.

My two year old adores her fisher price camera,i am so surprised how long the batteries last and think the way it switches itself off when not in use is brilliant.
I love seeing the world through her eyes, interesting angles and subject matter, try to emulate some of her shots myself, great fun.
Hope yours enjoys theirs as much

We got one of the fisher price cameras for our 4 year old for his birthday last April. He loved it for about 2 weeks, and then was done. He wants something that looks like Mommy and Daddy's camera..."not a toy camera, I want a REAL camera"
He's been pretty disappointed with the quality too...when we're looking at them on the computer, he always complains that his pictures aren't any good.
So, we're looking for a cheap " real" camera for christmas. (Thanks for the link Dave!!) I wouldn't waste the money on the Fisher Price camera again.

My daughter got the V-tech camera for her birthday (the .3 mp is correct god awful, definitely not for printing... at all... but she plays with the video feature and games more than anything... she takes a ton of pictures, but always deletes them when the memory is full. She doesn't even care about printing them... she just likes playing with it...

Thanks for all the great advice. The camera that turns off on its own is a good selling point.
Thanks Dave for the other option as well.

The Fisher Price camera is great for kids. My 5 year old daughter got it for Christmas last year and loves it. She has dropped it on the cement more times than I can count and it still works perfectly. The quality of the photos isn't great but the fact is, kids like taking pictures, they don't really care about them after they are taken. I mean she likes to look at them on the computer and then they are pretty much forgotten. The batteries do last for an insanely long amount of time and the shut off function is excellent for small children who get sidetracked very easily. I hope this is of some assistance.

I gave my kid my original digital elph right around the time he turned three. Took him about a day to figure out the switch do the chimping thing. He does reasonably well with it on fully auto, points it in the right direction, and normally doesn't have fingers over the lens. He has figured out my tripod, and carts it around attached to the camera.

The battery life is an issue, but I'm swapping two batteries which charge in an hour or so, so it's not that bad.

I'm thinking along the same lines.. I spent a lot of money on the Canon Digital Elph S400 when it first came out, but don't really use it now and it's value is now negligible. That's the one I'll probably give my 3 year old when he shows interest. We have 2 rechargeable batteries for it too. I'm looking at the newer Digital ELPHs as a P&S replacement as a 'take everywhere' camera for me and my wife.

I think I'll get the fisher price, see how well he likes it and then pass it on to the little brother when he is ready for a nicer camera.
I havent heard much about the Little Tykes, maybe because it is so new.

Kristy, you might also get him a digital photo frame so he can look at his pictures there instead of using your computer. Just a thought! :)

Oh no,,,,I saw a kids digital polaroid in the target ad, it says it has 3mp's. Yet it also have video games, I'm not sure if I'm ready for the game but the 3mp's sounds nice.

Photo frame nice...I'll think about that too.
