This issue is covered under the warranty!
|
I just got my MacBook back with the new topcase!
No questions were asked when I brought it to the Apple Campus Store at my college :)
On the service worksheet, it lists "Housing, Top Case, version 2, white with keyboard," "Part # 922-7754."
Obviously those Macbook topcases that are easy to chip off were came with a version 1 topcase.
So bring your computer to Apple if you encounter this issue!
(BTW I brought mine for serviced just a day before the warranty expired..LOL)

Yeah, if they don't find another reason to throw the warranty out! I took mine in and they decided that it had water damage and that meant they were off the hook as far as fixing the case. I'd never spilled anything on my machine, so I guess splashing droplets on it (ie washing dishes by hand and then changing the song in itunes) is enough to seep through the holes in the keyboard onto the motherboard below. So I'd advise all of you to get a keyboard protector if it isn't too late already.

I think it really depends on the Store. All service personnel are equal, but some are more equal than others..

How long did it take them to repair for you?
I went into San Francisco Flagship store without Macbook and asked a snotty genius how long it would take...he said 5-7 work days, depending on issue. But he said repeatedly, as if to a pre-schooler, he would need to see it.
After getting the "genius' to understand I wanted to know how long it would take once the parts were in, he said 3-5 days.
I can't be without my laptop of that long.
