09 Jan 10 - Please, post only cork marks, this requires to scan the cylindrical surface of the wine bottle corks. See "About Scanned wine bottle corks" in the Discussion to see how to proceed.
The goal of this group is to share those marks.

About Scanned wine bottle corks
From this group you are invited to share the marks of the wine bottle corks you find in the places where you live.
Wine cork marks are those drawings and texts etched in the surface of the wine bottle corks. Usually they refer to some caracteristic of the wine like its brand, the conditions under which it was bottled or just a generic icon of winery theme.
Although interesting by itself, cork artwork is poorly documented anywhere. Here is where Flickr comes as a great tool to gather and share all the diversity of this kind of design in one place.
Otaining a cork mark, however is not easy at all, you must scan the cylindrical surface of the cork. I do this using a flat scanner. I proceed rolling the cork over the top of the scanner, closely following the scanning lamp as it moves from one side to the other in the scanner.
Afert this work you an image that is like an stripe that usually repeats the cork mark subject more than once. From this point on you edit the image with your favourite image edition program, an crop out the image of the cork.
I call "unrolled" corks, the cork marks obtanined that way.
So, from a real cork like this one:

You can get an unrolled or flattened image like this one:

Sometimes a cork has artwork also on its top or bottom surfaces. Don't forget to post their images here in those cases.
Hope you'll have fun in the group.
