About Contemporary Black and White
A couple of years ago I created a group called "New Black and White" in the hopes of collecting B&W images that tried to push that corner of the photographic medium in new ways. For a time, I moderated it closely, rejecting about 90-95% of all submissions. Membership and picture volume spiraled quickly out of control, overwheming my attempts -- today NB&W has thousands of members posting thousands of snaps of their adorable young children, pets, high-contrast naked girlfriends, "dramatic" black leafless trees, lichen-patterned rocks, and the like. I moderate it but it's a battle of slow attrition.
Here we go again. This time the submissions will be more limited, and links to external sets that display a body of work are especially encouraged. There's no guarantee that it won't eventually be over-run by the "Interestingness" crowd, but at least it'll take a shot.
