14 Dec 09 - Artists who make conceptual art jewelry are concerned with conveying meaning through their work. They may interrogate notions of preciousness, aesthetic beauty, or cultural, religious, political, or other ideological norms. Jewelry designers, on the other hand, are concerned with whether their work is attractive, trendy or fashionable. Both conceptual art jewelry and jewelry design are valid expressions. However, this group serves to promote conceptual jewelry and to educate the public.

About Kunst + Xoias | Conceptual Art Jewelry

This is a curated space for artists who make conceptual jewelry and exhibit it in galleries, museums, their own studios or websites. If you make fashion or design inspired jewelry this is not the right group for you--in that case we encourage you to join one of the many jewelry design, fashion jewelry, or craft jewelry groups on Flickr. If you're not certain of what conceptual jewelry is, first take a look at our Group Photostream then visit art jewelry galleries like Velvet da Vinci, Galerie Ra, Galerie Louise Smit, Klimt02, etc.

Membership in Conceptual Art Jewelry is not automatic. If you're interested in joining, please organize examples of your best work into an album, then submit a membership application. If you have several albums, tell us which album or albums we should review. The criteria for membership in this group is not where you sell (Etsy and Artfire jewelry artists are welcome) but how well your work fits with the group's philosophy (see the statement in the grey rectangle above).

Please remember that if your request to join this group is not accepted, it is not a statement about the quality or desirability of your work. Membership is based on a subjective decision (so don't take it personally--find another Flickr group that works for you).

New members, welcome! Please feel free to start a discussion topic about anything jewelry related. For example, your art process, what inspires you, favorite books, calls for artists, jewelry competitions, awards, artist residencies, etc.
