What this group is about:

A group intending to provide and promote good, fair comment, critique and advice to anyone who loves photography. It is intended to act as a way for people to learn and discuss photography, but also as a social tool to gain contacts and to keep a network of keen photographers!

Who can join ?

This is an invitation only group (i.e., you can't sign yourself in) which will be capped at 200 active members. Once (and if!) the group reaches 200 people, members who have stopped posting or commenting regularly (at least once a month) will be politely made inactive participants so that others can join.

If you are looking for critique or advice regarding the photos you shoot then this is the right place. However, please see the notes below regarding the kind of photography which we would like to see here.

This is not a scoring group!

Note that this group will not provide scores for your photos. If this is what you are looking for, please consider joining scoring groups such as Judgement Day, ScoreMe!, 100 Points or MiRea's Realm. Here we provide quality critique, commentary and advice to members photos.

What type of photography can I post here ?

Any general interest photography, except:

1. Pornography or other types of photography which could offend others (nudity should be generally fine though)
2. Photos which have been heavily altered digitally (this group is for commenting on photographic, not Photoshop technique).

You should also consider that if you have a very specific topic that you tend to photograph (your pets, flowers, your car, pastries, etc.) then you might be better off joining a group which specifically targets that interest.

How do I post to this group ?

Once you are a member, simply post your photograph to the pool and ensure you then provide commentary on the three photos which have been posted before yours (or, if you can spare the time, more). You can also critique photos on the pool even when not posting.

If you are posting and looking for specific advice rather than general commentary, please include a little bit of information about the photograph and what you would like people to advise you or comment on.

What are the guidelines for the commentary ?

Generally speaking there are no specific guidelines. However please note the following will not be tolerated:

1. One line comments such as "Nice photo!" (not in this group you won't!)
2. A negative comment without follow up advice (i.e., if you are going to be negative then you must provide some information on what can be done to improve the photograph - even if it is simply something like "Next time take the lens cap off!")

Regular non-compliance to the above two rules will likely end up in a good spanking.

If you can, also please be kind enough to add the following to each comment (just enough to identify the group):

Also please add a "CoL" tag to your photo once you post.

While you are at it, also read the comments and critiques left by members of the group in photos belonging to the pool so you get an idea of the type and quality of the commentary. The goal of the group is to uphold a high standard.

What if I don't like a critique I received ?

Comments are yours - you are free to do with them what you like. Delete it, print it and hang it on your wall, whatever you wish. Just keep in mind that people actually took their time to give something back to you - politeness is a must and please do try to provide quality critique back.

Because everyone likes to have fun and the occasional bit of praise, we will regularly hold games, photo contests and other various activities to keep things shaking! Read the various topics in this group to find out more, or start your own activity by starting a new topic!
