More info

June 20, 2009 - 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
"TBF/TBM Avenger"
In Navy nomenclature the TBF was the original Torpedo Bomber built by (F for Grumman). The TBM is the very same aircraft, but cross-license built by General Motors
"Avenger" was the name given to the design by Grumman on December 7, 1941.
The British named them the "Tarpon" and received about a thousand of them.
US Pilots often called them "Turkey" (really) and over 2000 TBFs and 7,000 TBMs were built.
Today there are no TBF's flying, and about a dozen TBM's. Some of these are still used to fight fires in Canada.
The TBF was designed to replace the TBD "Devastator" built by Douglas Aircraft Corp. There are none of these left in any museum.
Many of the mfr codes do not match the first letter of the name - e.g. the Navy PBY Catalina was a Patrol Bomber built by (Y for Consolidated a/c corp.
“CAF" the organization that owns this example, now known as the Commemorative Air Force. The CAF actually owns three.
Tour the TBM. – Take a Ride in it.
Viet Nam Airlift Slide Show at 9:00 AM – Personal Recount by Robert Resling, who is also bringing his T-28
Jamie Martin, Diamond aircraft Sales, discusses new aircraft safety and human factors at 12:30 PM Both discussions in the Terminal Building
Conference Room
Visit with Aviation Author His Edge, Former Test Pilot, Wayne Harding – Book Signing Available
Anne Buhl, Licensed Aesthetician for Zen Glo (fabulous sunscreens) will be on hand in the terminal building.
Much more to see. Delicious refreshments available.
