Group Description

This bee is now FULL!

This is a 12 month bee of making blocks based on a theme set by the queen bee for the month. You will use your own stash to make your blocks. This bee is about stretching your quilting skills, cheering on the other members and receiving some amazing blocks. This is a serious commitment with original designs and creative themes. So, ask any questions you have and happy sewing, everybody!

September: locodowo (Lauree)
it will be "kitchen couture"!
i want to make a quilt that is a HUGE hodgepodge of kitcheny stuff on shelves!
WHATEVER tickles your fancy. i cant wait to see what you come up with.
Size is up to you
colors--not super keen on purple or pink but a touch here or there is fine.

October: Bellgirl (Annabel)
Annabel's Orchard: the concept encompasses the ideas of fruit trees, orchard fruit, fruitfulness and orchard produce.
one 12” by 16” orchard-themed block.
The block design and colour scheme is entirely up to you, they will be a ‘mixed dozen’

November: spottedstonestudio (Krista)
Let's Hit the Slopes! Think cozy ski lodges, snow, cool gear, those awesome vintage ski posters, etc.
Block size between 10-14"
no "holiday" aspect to the blocks.

January: quirkygranolagirl (Melinda)
Vintage/Cute Christmas
Thoughts of cookies and homemade candy, decorating the gingerbread house, reindeer, popcorn and cranberry garland, hot chocolate and a quilt by the fire, visions of sugarplums, candy canes, jolly Santa, twinkling lights, Christmas aprons, mistletoe, cookie cutters.
more aqua, white, red, green, brown and blue. less pink and purple, but a little is fine.
12.5" blocks. glitter and metallic fabric ok. embellishing with felt, buttons and ric rac ok.

February: Muriel (doucepoints)
Her original last name is Långstrump, I know her as Langkous, and most of you say Longstocking, but she is the same girl: she's colorful, out-of-control, strong, rich, spunky, friendly, smart. And I want to be her friend, and sometimes I want to be like her.
She eats pancakes, candy (lots), spaghetti with scissors. She sleeps with her feet on the pillow. She has big black shoes, and colorful clothes. Her villa is the wonkiest, most colorful house there is. She rides a horse, a balloon, a pirate ship. Her friends are Tommy and Annika, Mr. Nilsson the monkey, her white horse that lives on the porch and eats at the table. Her mother is in heaven and her father is a captain and king on an island in the South Seas.
I'm looking for blocks sized between 10" and 14" in either direction.

March: megsmonkeybeans (Megan)
The County Fair.
My family loves our local county fair in Clackamas, Oregon, and we go every year. We've even entered in several of the "Kitchen Cupboard" contests (including the kids!) for cooking and canning. We usually spend an entire day at the fairgrounds checking out the animals, displays, tasty food, treats like cotton candy, and of course, the rides on the midway. Feel free to let your block be inspired by a favorite carnival ride or a memory you may have of going to the fair.
Any size, any colors, any construction method you like. but, NO CLOWNS!!!!

April: Charise* (Charise)
House--house, trees, paths etc. up to you. Any size and color. I love Edwardian and Victorian houses but I'm up for anything - even mid century modern!!!

May: break month

June: Afriend2 (Amy)
Artist Studio: blocks that measure between 8" and 12" on any given side. I am open to any kind of artist's studio: the printmaker, fashion designer, painter, potter, etc.

July: {Leila} Where Orchids Grow (Leila)
A Woman's Work: everyday tasks a proper 50's housewife would perform. Doing the dishes, laundry, dusting, cooking, mopping floors, I'd love a hoover or carpet beater block. Vintage kitchen appliances, aprons, food molds, etc.
6 1\2" (unfinished) blocks preferred, but make it bigger if you need to for your own creativity.

August: break month

September: threehoneybees (Kylie)
The Best of the British: anything that strikes you as quintessentially British would be great! Think tea, london buses, rainy days, Liverpool Football Club, Mary Poppins...
Any size block, no color preferences.

October: Strawberrylicious (Tamiko)
Hawaii/Magnum PI: islands, spam, beaches, cocktails, surfing, shave ice, palm trees, bikinis, surfboards, aloha, hawaiian shirts, flip flops, Magnum PI, Hawaii Five-O, Loco Moco, Pineapples, volcanoes. Please make whatever comes to mind for you. Any size, any colours.

November: why not sew? (Erin)
Nursery Rhymes: I'm expecting my 4th baby this winter and I'd love to make a quilt to display in the baby's room. Any of your favorite nursery rhymes or children's stories would be great. I'm thinking Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, Little Boy Blue, Mary had a Little Lamb etc. We won't find out what we are having so I don't have any color/fabric preferences (but I really love vintage and aqua) and size is your choice also.

December (optional): verykerryberry (Kerry)
Traditional style house blocks- I especially like the schoolhouse block and if I get several of these i will be very happy! I would like to see your creativity in your fabric choices, fussy cutting, vintage, scrappy loveliness. 7-8" house in a 12.5" block
