About Classic Portraits
WHAT IS A CLASSIC PORTRAIT?
Wikipedia defines a portrait as: “…. a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position….”
A great many of the 'portraits' in Flickr portrait groups seem to be just pictures of people. Good though many of them are it seemed to me a portrait should be much more than just a picture of someone, especially if the portrait is to capture ‘the mood of a person.’
The purpose of CLASSIC PORTRAITS is to showcase portraits, defined by Wikipedia's definition above, from photographers of all abilities and skills.
In order to catch the mood please only post ‘head and shoulder’ portraits. Be adventurous! If you are a member of an amateur dramatic society or a re-enactment groups etc lets see you ‘in costume.’
Any portraits that are (or seem to be) glamour, fetish or pornographic are not welcome and will be removed. Please make sure of your security settings (on any web site) when posting portraits of children and young people. No animal portraits please.
PLEASE NOTE: Any portraits that do not fit the above criteria will be removed from the group.
