Nightowl's Classic Space Contest 2.0

STEAMPUNK and/or STEAMPOWER

This will be a contest for the best steam themed moc or model out of lego .
The only build rules are that the model or moc needs to be visbly based in steam power world .
This means if we the judges can tell it involes steam then it will be accepted .
The peice will be judged on scale, sized, shape and color . Also all judges will be
given leeway for there own tastes in lego models . The contest will be for 3 money prize places .

First place will recive 2 somewhat clean and crisp $20's plus bounus stuff (thats a min $40 bucks in your pocket )
Second place will recive 1 $20 and some bounus stuff
Thrid place will recive $10 and some bounus stuff

Now for the nitty gritty .

1. The moc or model must be made out of legos
2. The Moc or model must be summited to the CLASSIC SPACE FLICKR GROUP
3. This is only open to the flickr group (so join )
4. The peice must be summited to the group within 30 days (yes dez you get time ) of this post
5. By no means do you have to enter this but all models will be looked at and judged . (ridiculed if me and the judges feel like it .)
6. Have fun I'm going to so there is no reason you shouldnt .
7. The theme is steampunk / steampowered . So if we cant tell its steam related all bets are off .

Offical dates for this contest are 6/20/06 - 7/21/06 with a cut down to 3-5 on 7/19/06 . Offical winners will be announced on 7/22/06 after they have been contacted via flickr notes .

As always your more then welcome to contact me via flickr notes or email .

email : Nightowl_280@hotmail.com

EDIT ****Having a month to find bonus prize may be costly in the shipping ****

****Offical dates for this contest are 6/20/06 - edit**7/23/06 ** with a cut down to 3-5 on edit**7/2206 **. Offical winners will be announced around **7/24/06 -7/26/06** after they have been contacted via flickr notes . ******

Excellent. I cross-posted this to CSF on order to get people to join the group and enter this. Very funky!

Edit: here's the link.

I don't think I'll be finishing my airship in 30 days. Oh well. I could practically taste that prize money :)

Can't you move it out a little farther so that I can win?

Gladius the only build rule is it needs to invole steam . Thus if you could convince me that a space mini figure was tream power or operated some that was steam related it would be okay . If ya put smoke stack and a boiler on batmoblie it would be call steampowered . Now by no mean am i saying do these things just build something that has a premeiss of steam .

Slice151 posted this on CSF, thought everyone should know:

This isn't a thread jack but I noticed this will may overlap with the Brickfest contest. Entering a steampunk moc built for the Brickfest contest, into this one will make you ineligible for the Brickfest contest. The Brickfest contest is to promote mocs built for Brickfest. I do however, support this Flickr contest in that not everyone can attend Brickfest.

It shouldn't be allowed because then someone could enter something that took them well over the contest time to build and is therefore unfair.

There is know saying that the thing you post to the contest isnt a lego creation you have been working on for a while . The fact that fits the contest is just a bounus . The last contest i just wanted to see some differnt stuff that i hadnt seen .Which is why i add the hasnt been post line . Really it slipped my mind so i say shame on me but the rules are the rules . Im not going to rules lawyer a cool moc out but my other judges have the power to vote veto or just ignore a moc that they dont think fits with the heart of the contest . (also i did give decent amount of extra heads up time to groupies ) In my book orginalty in this contest will get weighed heavy . Whos to say what the other two will like . Hell they may be looking for Pink flower steampots .

Have fun enjoy build some steam stuff . quit playing on the forum .

I just started on my steampunk entry last night (Which happens to also be my first steam-related MOC ever). Nice contest idea! This may just be what it takes for me to get interested in steampunk

-Mainman- says:

Yes, pink flowers are precisely what I'm looking for. In fact, I will toss out any entry without them. ;) haha

Personally, I enjoy seeing new stuff. Since the rules don't preclude previously posted MOCs, I will certainly not rule them out, but I'd probably be more likely to lean toward something new.
Above all, of course, creativity is key. So build me something cool!

Some of you have seen my work in progress pics over at CS of my flying aircraft carrier. I should ask right now then wether it will qualify for this contest. IT is still relatively recent and not yet finished, though it will be soon. From what I see here, it looks like it will qualify. I am stoked about the timing precisely because I can't go to Brickfest and enter that contest.

So, I'm building something steampowered, but not really steampunk... it is a bit more modern, but still powered by steam. I hope it qualifies, 'cause I think it might be something entirely unique (mind you, unique does not often equate great). As long as it is auspiciously powered by steam, then it is a go, right.... regardless of the fictional time line or world it fits into?

I was wondering, what if the MOC is lightning powered, it's not steam but it's in the same sort of thing from the "alternate future" idea. So would it be accepted? I doubt it but it's just an idea I had. And also what about pedal powered MOCs?

"7. The theme is steampunk / steampowered . So if we cant tell its steam related all bets are off . " rules.. By no mean is it illegal just dont expect it to get all the glory point for steam . Just remember if it relates to a steampower world . Good example of something that could be from a steamworld is a pedal bike . Not realy steampower or related till you add cart or wagon with coal or some other fuel for steam . Its all about crafting a setting with a good non steam powered moc .

Is it ok to post a WIP thread about my entry over on c-s.com or here... It is about 3/4 done, but I'm stuck and could use some input. I just don't want to be accused of cheating by asking for help, or of having someone rip off my idea (though I doubt it is good enough to prompt that reaction)... thoughts?

Thanks,
Jared
