Save Our Citrus (a group admin) says:
30 Jun 09 - Citrus Greening is on the move. The State of Georgia has been put under a federal quarantine to help prevent the spread of a devastating citrus disease. The quarantine follows the discovery in Georgia of "citrus greening" (CG), a disease that causes citrus fruit to be bitter and unusable.

About Save Our Citrus

Join the fight against the deadly citrus greening disease

Web site: www.saveourcitrus.org

Company Overview:
The USDA sponsored saveourcitrus.org to inform the public about the deadly citrus greening disease. Named for its green, misshapen fruit, citrus greening disease has destroyed millions of acres of citrus plants around the world. And now it is here in the United States. It is spread by a disease-infected insect, the Asian citrus psyllid, and has put the future of America’s citrus at risk.

Help stop the spread of this deadly plant disease. Don’t risk citrus. Don’t move citrus plants.

UNDERSTAND THE THREAT
• Citrus greening is a bacterial plant disease that destroys citrus trees.
• It is spread by infected Asian citrus psyllids, aphid-like insects that feed on citrus leaves and stems.
• There is no cure for this deadly plant disease, only prevention by not moving plants and plant material.

TRACKING ITS SPREAD
• Citrus greening disease has spread throughout the state of Florida and has been found in Louisiana.
• The entire state of Florida is now under quarantine.
• Asian citrus psyllids have also been found in southern California and other citrus-producing states.

HIGH-RISK ACTIVITIES
• Moving (shipping or transporting) citrus plants outside of areas quarantined for citrus greening disease
• Grafting citrus plants
• Buying citrus plants of an unknown origin
