About Ciclovia Bogotá
A group to collect photos of this inspiring weekly cycling, recreation and community-building event in Bogota, Colombia.
Ciclovia is a weekly tradition in Bogota, Colombia. It entails the closure of lanes in one direction of travel on *122 kilometres* of major roads within the City of Bogota, on Sunday mornings. The lanes are closed to vehicular traffic in order to provide residents with one the most extensive recreational urban "greenways" in the world. Residents get out to cycle, jog, roller-blade, and walk.
The network connects major city parks, where during Ciclovia hours, the city runs *free* fitness classes ranging from jazzercise to yoga to dance. Residents can pedal or walk down to a park, take in some exercise and then return home. Ciclovia was started in the late 1970s, with about 20 kilometres of road-way closures. Today it is anticipated that 1.4 million people participate.
