i like this idea.
could be pretty nifty.
im kinda down with the idea of individual boxes, painted/etched on, that make up a larger canvas. maybe each person has their own box they can add whatever they want to it?
>this makes me think of a rubics cube-type setup.
all different base colours.
three dimensional canvas.
would look awww-sum on the street.
imagine that
ps
i love mark jenkins stuff. so great
check out his videos too. they are smashing!

On the topic of using boxes for an installation, what about a lego theme?
It could work well out the front of a construction site...

You could even do the lego bumps with, i dunno, old round takeaway containers or something. The lego man could just be 2d...

maylin - does bunnings have them outside so that i could pick them up after hours? or would we have to get down there during the day?
witness1 - if you'd like to be in charge of making boxes into lego bricks that'd be ace! can you bring along the old takeaway containers?
if we wanted to be really cool, we could even cut holes in the bottom of boxes so that the containers actually fit like lego too! :)

they'd have to picked up during the day.... they have heaps of old boxes there for people to use instead of providing plastic bags (this is at the marion store..)
im actually not 100% sure whether they'd let us just take them, but its worth a shot... maybe if we ask nicely.
I can probably see if i can get some tomorrow....

Oh yeah. All of this box stuff sounds fantastic. Down the side alleys in town you can get heaps of boxes. i picked up a bunch last week.might hafto be re-cycling day tho.
and another thought - the doors idea could be incorperated nicely into this!

I rejoined COF (for the 2nd or 3rd time) just to say, "yes, witness1, it's ok to use that picture." The wall has gone now, so it's now just a historical marker for the future when we can say "When I was a boy..."
I've left a comment on your image.

Sorry I missed it too - too boring a life I'm afraid - not for me, but most people would say sitting at home in front of a computer playing in code would be boring... meh ;)
Great work guys - I have meetings in town today so may try to find where this is...?

**WALL UPDATE**
As of 9:15 this morning, the wall is still in place. Plus, people are actually looking at it - I mean, it isn't drawing crowds, but the odd person is walking up to it for a closer look.

another thought for next time around: maybe we could have one night where we all bring a blank canvas, put them together like we did the boxes, and paint them up.
then afterwards we could hang them in a gallery and sell them, and all proceeds could go towards funding the next project.
as we need more money, we have another canvas night..

sad news - went past the wall around 5pm and it was mostly in pieces on the ground
wind?
vandalism?
the man?
it was good while it lasted
ps - a canvas theme would work I reckon - it was kick arse stuff there

nikkilou: yup, we work together as a collective.. but we don't have a name yet. we're not in it for fame and fortune.. yet.. we're just doing it for the fun of it. want to come play? :)
she's all fixed again! a few more wrinkles here and there, but nothing life threatening.

Haha believe it or not, I've been at art school for 4 years, and I can barely draw or paint- I didn't do either classes- I can't even sketch an idea of something I want to make... I always end up just making it!
But I'll be sure to come and check it out sometime! Great work :)

Just popped by the wall and checked out its stunningness, still in all its glory (i even added my name to the cast!)
I started chattin to Yas' friend from Chapel Gesture. She confirmed that it was the wind that attacked our boxes, and then some kind-hearted teens reassembled the wall!
