About Christmas Playground

Unique to Derby the ‘Christmas Playground’ will feature giant wooden toy sculptures which will provide a play area for visitors to the city centre seeking a rest from Christmas shopping, particularly young children. Visitors will be encouraged to climb aboard the giant toys – carved by local wood sculptor Andrew Frost - and let their imagination run wild. Including traditional toys of local significance such as a train, jet engine, car, toy soldier, penguin and bear, the Playground will provide both physical and creative stimulation within a festive and family oriented environment.

A first of its kind, the Playground will connect the community, the private and public sector as well as local arts organisations through a unique attraction that will boost Derby’s profile and drive footfall within the Cathedral Quarter, the cultural heart of the city. This has been brought to life by a partnership created and led by Katapult, the Derby based marketing agency, and includes Arts Council England, Bombardier, CCM, Derby City Council, Derby County Football Club , Derby Live, Toyota, Royal Crown Derby, Royal Derby Hospital, Rolls-Royce, QUAD, Rolls-Royce, Simon Foote Architects, and the University of Derby.
