Whenever I see a rainbow I think "Awesome!"
And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. ... Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." (Genesis 9:12-16)

I saw this the other day and after I thought about the theme; It made me think God is awesome and that might have been what Israel felt like to have the shield of the cloud in the desert:

The scripture Exodus 13:20-22:
Then they set out from Succoth and camped in Etham on the edge of the wilderness. The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

Most people relate this verse only to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly but I believe God has beauty even in the wierd bugs. He did make them for some reason and purpose.

The sun rose and revealed the distant cloudscape and a lone man amidst the waters, I reflected:
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

Ps. 65:9-13 NASB
You visit the earth and cause it to overflow;
You greatly enrich it;
The stream of God is full of water;
You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.
You water its furrows abundantly,
You settle its ridges,
You soften it with showers,
You bless its growth.
You have crowned the year with Your bounty,
And Your paths drip with fatness.
The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
The meadows are clothed with flocks
And the valleys are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Not sure which Scripture is more favorable to me as regards this photo...
Matt 3:16 "...the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove...."
OR
John 8:12 "...Jesus spoke to them saying, 'I am the light of the world;
he who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.'"

i'm really bad at thinking of scripture. but when i saw this, i did my best to capture it, because i thought "how cool! this ant is dragging a leaf that's like 3 times its size by himself somewhere where it'll benefit an entire colony." and i thought how amazing God is to make something that's like 1000x smaller than us but is probably just as strong if not stronger! and good thing he made them so small, because if he made them any bigger than some of them are now i think we'd have a problem.

Here is Mt. Qazbegi, in the Great Caucasus Mountains in the Republic of Georgia, a thoroughly Orthodox Christian country. The Tsminds Sameba (Holy Trinity) Monastery Church sits on a nearby mountaintop at 10,000 feet, reachable only by foot. It's a two-hour walk from the nearest town. An active monastery is still located there to this day.
British explorers climbing Mt. Qazbegi in the 19th Century found remains of a church on the mountainside at the 12,000 foot level, as well as a cave dug into the side of the mountain into the living rock. Monks lived and prayed on the mountain, in solitude and enduring incredibly harsh conditions, all for the glory of God.
"When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone." (John 6:15)
"LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled." (Psalms 30:7)

This is the first time I had been here, and it took my breath away. Almost brought tears to my eyes, because I knew that no one could have made something so absolutely gorgeous but God Himself. It even made my sister's fiance' praise God.

Isaiah 42:10-12
10 Sing to the LORD a new song,
And His praise from the ends of the earth,
You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,
You coastlands and you inhabitants of them!
11 Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice,
The villages that Kedar inhabits.
Let the inhabitants of Sela sing,
Let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 Let them give glory to the LORD,
And declare His praise in the coastlands.

'Alone with God'
Early in the morning, walking alone on the beach, it would seem you would be having a wonderful conversation with God with the beauty that surrounds you.
Psam 139:9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there you hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 'NIV'

This was shot during the california wildfires and the long wispy 'clouds' are more likely smoke. The santiago canyon fire smoke was visible behind the camera and completely filling the sky about 10 miles away.

God demonstrates His awesomeness in beauty, and sometimes His awesomeness is demonstrated in sobering, powerful, terrifying ways.
This photo was taken in Indonesia, after the 2004 Tsunami. Most of the palm trees near the ocean had been felled, and no one in the nearby town hadn't lost a loved one.

"Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt'?" -Job 38:8-11
I also find awe in seeing God's people worship...not because WE are awesome, but because of the awesome things God has done in and for us, and seeing the grateful response of God's people.

"After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb" Rev 7:9-10

God's Gift.
I had a bad week. While out just driving around on my lunch having a pity party for one, I happen to look off toward the West and I saw something white. After slowing down, I realized it was water. Well, in the woods, where there is water, there is waterfalls. I pulled over and followed an off-road and lo and behold what did I find? God just put that there to make me smile. I have passed this same spot for 5 years and yesterday was the first time to know it existed. He just showed me that even when we feel bad, that we need to look outside the box, there is a diamond waiting to be uncovered, I found my diamond. Thank you Lord.

Wales is lovely, but they never filmed Lord of the Rings there! ;) My one regret about my time living in the UK is that I never made it up Snowdon! We walked through Chirk and that is about all we got to see in Wales, other than driving back to London through Wales... Love the sheep, made me feel right at home! :)
I love the pics in here guys, and the stories about why each spot is special for you!

I caught this view last week on my way home from work and rushed to get my girls out there in time for some shots. All I kept thinking on the way home was how awesome this was - and how it showed me just a tiny portion of how amazing God and His glory is.

I'd like to say this is what heaven would look like, but as I heard on the radio the other day - God made this in one day. He's been off for hundreds of years preparing heaven. I can't even fathom how awesome it will be!
