Chicagography: Photo Flash Mobs in Chicago

Ever heard of Flash Mobbing? If not, here's the WikiPedia definition:

"A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse."

Well, I want to start something in Chicago called Photo Flash Mobbing (yes, the pun is rather fitting) for an artistic website project.

The concept is something I've been toying around with for a while. You get 25-100 photographers to show up at the same site for 2 minutes. Do something immediately upon arrival, then take pictures/video of the event until the 2 minute timer goes off, then scatter and upload the resultant photos/videos to a central website and Flickr group.

Do this once a month for a year and then create a book that all flash mob members would be able to buy for the cost of publication (or download in PDF format) and anyone else could buy it for the cost of publication + a small fee for the creation of the book.

It'd be a ton of fun, if you've ever seen any of the videos of flash mobs or participated in them, they're some of the most fun you can get into especially if they're super short events that are intended to be shocking to the people who witness it.

Some examples of ideas that others have used or I've participated in: bounce a single soft bouncy ball per person down a hill or set of stairs (making something like the Bravia bouncy ball commercial), everyone dressing up like Waldo/Wenda and making a big "Where's Waldo" scene, showing up somewhere at saying a mantra of some sort (typically as a means of peaceful protest), doing something odd for the sake of doing something odd (like a bunch of people busting out into the tango in the middle of Navy Pier), creating a work of art (a bunch of people showing up at one spot with their choice of spray paint and tagging a designated board/wall/etc), having a massive pillow fight, dressing up like zombies and surging through a city in a big group, etc.

Either send me a FlickrMail, respond to this post, or join the new chicagography flickr group
